@markwyner@mas.to I heard some US Black leaders make an important point about framing what’s happening. They wanted to talk about this in terms of #freedom and #liberty, not #CivilRights. Perhaps the same principle applies to #democracy instead of #VotingRights.

@zeblarson@hcommons.social All the best. Give yourself permission to be burnt out and at your wit’s end. It’s part of being a human parent, not a personality flaw or deficit in any way. I don’t trust people who won’t admit how hard it is.

@falcennial@mastodon.social I don’t know where the limits are but the awesome @wild1145@mastodonapp.uk runs two instances @mastodonapp.uk and @universeodon.com. Check with him. Solid hosting. The problems never come to my attention.
The story of Patrice Lumumba, leader of #Congo, killed during the cold war by #Belgium and the CIA.
“The Congolese people will gain little from prosecuting a man who drafted cables.
What would actual atonement look like? For Belgium, it would entail a forthright apology and an admission of institutional responsibility. For the United States, it could mean the same, as well as investing in Congo’s governance, its institutions and its people, instead of merely racing to secure its cobalt.“

For anyone looking for or struggling to hold onto #hope, this podcast is worth a listen. #JasonReynolds talks about how #grace gives us #stamina, and how approaching each other with #curiosity opens the door to imagine something better than our current moment.

Why #Minnesota matters: Sharing risk and leadership of the #resistance.
“…your private #ICE army — “governed by strength” and “force” — was sent packing by a bunch of moms and dads armed only with cellphone cameras and whistles, ready to walk out on a freezing morning in bathrobes and bunny slippers, to defend their neighbors, some of whom they barely knew.”

@walterolson.bsky.social Good article but wrong conclusion. The problem with Section 230 is not about free speech, it is about immunity from liability. Under the US legal system, companies can be sued when activities that bring them profit cause harm. The tech giants have been able to grow and profit with no accountability.

Hear hear. I heard some wisdom recently that really stuck with me: We are living through collapse and renewal *at the same time.* We are all choosing which parts to focus our energy and attention on. It is critical to observe the collapse, but there is much work to do toward renewal.
