mastodon 4.7.3I'm a 20th century wolf in the PNW. (he/him) Interests are music/vinyl, history, animation, furry, MST3k et al., ephemeral media (16mm films etc.), and Japan (Showa/Heisei) ㍼/ ㍻. Seiko Matsuda [松田聖子] 「瞳はダイモンド」[Hitomi wa Diamond] JP CBS/Sony 1983
Seiko Matsuda during her run in the early 1980s could get any songwriter to do songs for her. Case in point, the music for this single was written by Kureta Karuho [呉田軽穂], an alias used by Yumi Matsutoya [neé Yumi Arai] with arrangements by Masataka Matsutoya.

Shiro Sagisu *His And Her Circumstances Act 1.0* US Geneon 1998, 2004 release
AKA Kare Kano, this was one of the last series from the legendary GAINAX studio, and rather infamous that it ran only 13 episodes and ended in the middle of an arc. Still, the music is great with a 1970s vibe; the ending theme "Into A Dream [夢の中へ]" is a cover of a 1973 movie theme by Yosui Inoue.
Nirvana "Sliver b/w Dive" US Sub Pop 1990, 2nd pressing c. 1992, blue swirl
There was a brief period of time in the early 90s I had a turntable; I got a Sears stereo system as a graduation present. During that time I mostly picked up used records, but I picked up a few new like this Nirvana single from the U District Tower Records. The single includes an accidentally recorded phone call that Johnathan Poneman makes to a hung over Krist Novoselic.

The Monkees "Valleri" US Colgems/RCA 1968
The Monkees are an interesting group; yes, they were made for TV, but they did develop into fine singers and musicians. This was their final US Top 10 single, peaking at #3 in the Billboard charts. The flip side is "Tapioca Tundra", written by Mike Nesmith, showing the more adventurous side of the band.

The Go-Go's "Vacation" US IRS 1982
An appropriate single for the start of summer in Northern Hemisphere. While the not the first all female rock band to chart, they were the first to also write their own material to top the album chart with their debut album *Beauty And The Beat*. *Vacation*, the band's second album peaked at 8 on the album chart, as did the single.

I couldn't be a tastemaker, because I have no taste.
I couldn't be an influencer, because I have no influence.
Toto *Toto* US Columbia 1978
The members of Toto met while working as session musicians in the music rich LA studios in the mid 1970s. Even after putting out this album (and having a Top 5 hit with "Hold The Line") they continued doing session work, showing up on albums for artists around the world.

I really not that good at advertising, but here's my latest episode of Sunset Marina on Mixcloud, wherein I just lean fully into the yacht rock, despite some rough seas.

It's easy to forget how much it's a PITA to have a collection of physical media until you have to move it.
What does iTunes come up this week for #MondayRandom10 ?
1. "Day Tripper" by The Beatles
2. "(You're The Only One Can) Make Me Cry" by Concrete Blonde
3. "Two" by Madhouse
4. "Theme From Lupin The 3rd '78 (Walther P99 Mix)" by Yuji Ono
5. "Rebel Rebel" by David Bowie
6. "How Long" by Information Society
7. "Iscarabald" by Sunny Day Real Estate
8. 「クシャナの侵略」 by Joe Hisaishi
9. "Manha de Carnival" by Stan Getz
10. "Face B" by Pizzicato Five
There. Sufficient chaos.
I don't recognize who this is, but it's a little more energetic than I was expecting from the description... #ListeningClub
This is another story that needs to be told and known by more. A hero to one story is often a villain in another.

Here we are at the crossroads; paid the last rent on my current place and the first rent for my new place. Been here for almost 10 years, and I'm looking forward to the move, but I'd rather it would just be over with no effort on my part, you know? It's gonna be a frantic couple of weeks...
Major milestone in the move achieved: getting the turntables and audio system (CD and Blu-Ray) up and running.
Gino Vannelli "I Just Wanna Stop" US A&M 1978
Some CanCon from Montreal. After Vannelli released *Pauper In Paradise* which featuring a 15 minute title track suite, A&M warned him to make something more commercial. Next album featured this, his biggest hit; #1 in Canada, Top 5 in the US and on the Canadian and US Adult Contemporary (Easy Listening) chart.

Original Love *Eyes* JP East World 1993
One of my all-time favorite albums. Original Love's third major label album feels like a drive to the beach on a summer day, sunny yet soulful. Original Love never gets mentioned in the same breath as other Shibuya-kei groups like Pizzicato Five or Cornelius (even though leader Takao Tajima fronted P5 in the late 80s), but the band's early 90s albums continue the traditions of city pop and sophisti-pop.

This is a set made up entirely of albums that I had already played a song off of, but there were more tracks that I wanted to play. Most of the time, I originally went with an album cut than the more common track, or it's a greatest hits collection. Either way, here's a collection of songs that are so good, I just couldn't do it one time.

It's a labyrinth, after all....
The final missing episode from the KTMA days of Mystery Science Theater 3000 episide K03 "Star Force: Fugitive Alien 2" was found on a VHS tape at a garage sale and uploaded to YouTube. K01 and K02 were previously released in 2016 as part of the Kickstarter for MST3k revival seasons. "Star Force" was re-riffed as part of the Japan heavy third season.

This is more of an 1980s and 1990s styled set, mostly sourced from 7" and 12" singles. The title of the set comes from a collaboration between R.E.M. and KRS-One, and there are many collaborations: R.E.M. + Warren Zevon (aka Hindu Love Gods) covering Prince, Philip Oakey (Human League) with Giorgio Moroder, Björk with David Arnold, Ryuichi Sakamoto with David Sylvan (Japan).
