@ponda@mastodon.online @EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu @Mastodon@mastodon.social until yesterday it was an experimental instance that would have been shut down for lack of funding.
I guess someone stepped in to help.
Now let's just hope it was for the sake of good rather than for the sake of profit.

@kde@floss.social @kde@lemmy.kde.social Can someone explain to me why having a cube to rotate is better than the classic desktop switching views? 🤔

@EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu took you a bit but you figured it out.
Now fine those that made a bunch of money from that, take away all their money or they'll never understand.

@eviltrout@carpdiem.online that's unfortunately true for every company in this kind of economy.
Untill the only focus will be on paying dividends to investor, instead of focusing on what they bring to people and society, screwing up their communities will be the norm.
We need to change the rules at the base of the system if we want to move forward on a better direction.
Evolution is "asking us" to evolve our society and we're failing.

thanks for all the answers, long story short seems like the reason might be "aesthetics".
Personally, I'm happy if something works great, and is also visually pleasant, but I'd never

The current fetishization of “ #freedom to”, as pushed by the USA, without any grounding in “freedom from” results in a society where the most sociopathic actors shape the rules, because they are “free to” do so, while others are not #free from their consequences.
The absolute freedom some greedy, entitled individuals require inevitably results in curbing everybody else's freedom.
Remember this when you see the current #USA administration attacking the #EU for their defense of people's rights.

@AltAfterDark@masto.thefword.club This is a "problem" that was solved back in the 90s, when alt was introduced as a substitute for the image.
It depends on the purpose of the image https://www.w3.org/WAI/tutorials/images/
You can refer to these 5 handy rules:
Rule 1: Every
must have an alt= attribute
Rule 2: Describe the information, not the picture
Rule 3: Active images require descriptive alt text.
Rule 4: Images that contain information require descriptive alt text.
Rule 5: Decorative images should have empty alt text.
