@shantara@mastodon.social Wow, those gradients are odd. 🤔 I’m glad I found the per-app settings years ago when I switched to iOS. I like standard contrast globally, but Messages’ out-of-box contrast was bad enough to send me digging. I turned on Increase Contrast for Messages and haven’t looked back…makes both blue and green bubbles much more readable.

@lapcatsoftware Fair point. Maybe not “small” internally, but the pieces are kind of already there. Apple already supports refunds shortly after purchase (often before payment method is hit), so there’s a built-in safety net. Even a simple, time-limited window—like an hour—would be enough for many utility apps to let people try before committing, without needing subscriptions or workarounds.

@johnsundell Perfect timing—I was just about to remove it while doing some podcast housekeeping. Glad I didn't!?

@shantara@mastodon.social Yeah, if you want true light/dark in Apple Music, you have to turn on Increase Contrast (you can set it per app). It forces the mode, but you lose the album art tinting. I use a similar approach in one of my apps, but I clamp the tint to a specific range so it never gets too light—keeps white text readable while still echoing the cover art.

@lapcatsoftware Nice list! Lots of these would make a real difference. One I’d add: Built-in free trials for upfront paid apps. Some apps don’t make sense as subscriptions or freemium, and the current workaround is pretty hacky. I’ve been trying to get clarity from Apple here: https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/812511

@alexkaessner@mas.to For fellow update addicts, here's a simple shortcut that opens Updates directly. I replaced the App Store on my Home Screen with it as that's where I want to go 99% of the time. https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/d004d976b47148018bc6790ffa52131c

Oh, and I know the title jump isn’t just a “me” problem—even Apple’s own apps do it. Here’s a slow-mo screen recording of Shortcuts:

I chimed in on a couple Apple Dev Forums threads about this and a DTS engineer already replied—maybe there’s hope?! 🤞 https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/802908?answerId=875977022#875977022

@twostraws Love it! I especially like this instruction: "Target iOS 26.0 or later. (Yes, it definitely exists.)" Yup, LLMs will often think iOS 19 is a thing. 😆

@tuomas_h @grumpy_website Worst offender for me is the iPhone Mirroring app. You have to hover the window and wait for the title bar to animate in just to move the window—making it a slow, two-step process. Same for the Home and App Switcher buttons. It’s so frustrating I barely use it. Doesn’t help that my main use case is listening to podcasts at my desk, and the keyboard play/pause key doesn’t control audio from the mirrored phone. 😞

@mathijskadijk That’s really nice and smooth, though I do question the utility. The distinct horizontal, vertical, and diagonal cursors help signal which axis (or axes) you can drag. Maybe a middle ground: instead of mapping directly to the curve, animate the cursor when transitioning between one-axis and two-axis drag, then back again?
