@oxy@social.bsdlab.au @Unixbigot@aus.social I've heard this a handful of times in different areas of London (UK), as recently as two days ago actually. My husband and I take turns but that is because we spoiled the dog so bad he gets upset if left alone. Oops ...

@stefano I find a similar thing happening more often with my colleagues too. I think the luck of knowing can be fine, after all I didn't know what I know now and I keep leaning new things. I find the real problem is the lack of willingness or incentives to learn new things. And I really don't understand why people that call themselves developers would not want to learn or how to change that in them (I doubt anyone but them could really change that). Ignoring the vibe coders aspect because well vibe coders.

@mgorny I see this a lot too, and it is indeed very overwhelming. But I don't think "it is over". I believe many people in FOSS are not here for ideological reasons (the sharing of knowledge and solutions, the community) but either as a job or a tool (for example to get a job). But it is hard (impossible?) to tell the difference from the outside so it looks like so many people are abandoning their beliefs but I don't think that is accurate. This means those of us that refuse LLMs (in FOSS or anywhere) are a reminder that those values do exist, and when they do they are strong and healthy. I think LLMs will largely pass (but not disappear) and so our refusal actions are important, no matter how small. Aside from the practical reasons (preserving skills and knowledge) we can show other people that "no LLMs thanks" is an option and we can remind them why. We can show people there are alternatives, especially younger people just starting to explore software communities. I know this is a lot of hope and guessing, but I hope it can bring some comfort in times you need it. At the very least you are not alone.

@leeloo@chaosfem.tw no, it opens the project perfectly fine but some features (and I think extensions?) are not available. Never looked enough into which features are unavailable, I generally just need a text editor to explore something if I don't trust the author. @0xabad1dea@infosec.exchange

@starlabssystems@mastodon.social every couple of months you give me a new reason to buy your devices. But none of my stuff will need replacing for a couple of years still! 😂

Even with a public-facing IP on every device, ports are still protected by the router's firewall. @Baa thanks for this comment! Instinctively I always knew this, because NAT is not a security tool, the firewall is. Just because NAT and firewall are often coupled does not mean they have to be. It's such a simple explanation I can't believe it took me this long to actually get it!

@megalomaniac phone wise I'm very happy with the #Fairphone5 I have. Now they have a partnership with @murena and you can get their phones with the de-googled /e/OS which I will for sure do next phone (some years from now because the current one is going so strong). Quick note though: I have not tried nor fully researched /e/OS or how it compares to other OSs but it appears capable of running many banking apps (what makes breaking out most difficult for me).
