@da_667@infosec.exchange decent cars, but electronic nightmares. Maximum warranty you can afford / justify and make sure the dealership service department you'll be using isn't awful. Honestly this could be said about most cars made after 2021-ish, but Volvo is moreso than most brands. Like another person also said, don't sleep on Hyundai and their luxury brand Genesis - which competes directly against Volvo, Acura, Buick, Lexus, etc.

@Oregon_Pacifist@retro-gaiden.com This link has some helper code, but I never endeavored to make it work on a modern distro. https://wiki.debian.org/DebianOnIntelMacPro I also spent too many minutes reading and referring back to this guide - https://blog.greggant.com/posts/2018/05/07/definitive-mac-pro-upgrade-guide.html I run MacOS 12 Monterey (using OCLP) on mine and have effectively frozen it at that level for retrocomputing needs. The lack of AVX support on those CPUs really started to make modern computing harder in the last year or so.

@Oregon_Pacifist@retro-gaiden.com I bought a surplus one like this from a university and upgraded it to damn near max. One thing to watch out for, especially on Linux, is the fan profiles let stuff get really hot. There's a ton of excellent resources out there to help you max it out. Good luck and have fun!

@briankrebs@infosec.exchange Just about every month you do a post about the Microsoft Patches on Patch Tuesday and I've occasionally missed it in my feed. Have you considered adding the patchtuesday hashtag to your posts like this? Thanks for everything you do.

@dsandler@mastodon.social I'm pretty sure you don't work at the same company I do, but also, at the same time, I am 100% certain we work in the same place.

@Jirikiha @_elena @cwicseolfor @skinnylatte IIRC they didn't appropriately winterize the supporting infrastructure in that plant and a few others. ERCOT had a few ok-ish writeups on it.

Note: Based on my quick glances at news reports, this one looks worse than average in terms of 0-days. Patch early and patch often.

#PatchTuesday 2026-07 Patching experience in my test lab (#homelab). Windows 11 - No issues on any test machines / VMs. Windows 10 - Normal, ESU machine rebooted a few more times than I expected. Windows Server 2016 - Normal, Servicing Stack Update (KB5099542). New Servicing Stack every month now, I guess. Windows Server 2019 - Normal, uneventful. Windows Server 2022 - Normal, uneventful. Windows Server 2025 - Normal, uneventful. Note: Wow, per bleepingcomputer, 570 vulnerabilities fixed, 3 zero-days (2 actively exploited), 141 remote code execution flaws – that's A LOT.

@jimsalter@fosstodon.org In the MS model, you're meant to control this with Sites & Services (and Subnets). The DC locator process should then take over and prioritize local DCs, but remote DCs will still be occasionally checked. If you're in a scenario where specific remote DCs are unreachable, this turns into a slightly more complicated scenario that will involve editing the correctly building the sites and sitelinks, then either letting the domain reconfigure or forcing the KCC process.

@sarahtaber@mastodon.online I have it through my work and even though I'm not sure I'd endorse it yet, it does indeed work well for credit monitoring purposes.
