1. uBlock Origin add-on:

Block trackers, ads and other content.

Hard mode (not recommended!), enable the advanced user checkbox, disallow everything by default and then opt-in one by one for things you actually need.

2. Settings > AI Controls
Disable what you don't want.

3. DuckDuckGo NoAI as a search engine:

Go to Settings > Search > Add.
Enter a name. For the URL, put: https://noai.duckduckgo.com/?q=%s
Add Engine, then scroll back up and make it the default.

4. Privacy Badger add-on:

Automatically learns to block hidden trackers.

Go to Settings > Privacy & Security.

Enhanced Tracking Protection:
Set it to strict with the "Fix major site issues" checkbox enabled. Read the disclaimer. If you do encounter issues, you can add exceptions.

Website Privacy Preferences:
Mark "Tell websites not to sell or share my data" checkbox.
I also use the "Clear cookies and site data every time you close Firefox" checkbox. You can set exceptions for sites you actually want to remember your settings or logins via cookies.

Dann kommt zum lokalen "Free Software Foundation Europe"-Treffen in Wien! Gerne auch weitererzählen und andere Interessierte einladen

Es wird einen kurzen Vortrag (auf Englisch) über Freie Software und die gesellschaftliche Motivation dahinter geben. Nach dem Vortrag wird geschaut, ob Interesse für regelmäßige Treffen da ist und natürlich wollen wir dann einfach gemütlich plaudern und uns über aktuelle Themen austauschen.

Plastic bottles transformed into Parkinson's drug using bacteria

"Scientists at the University of Edinburgh engineered E. coli bacteria to turn a type of plastic used widely in food and drink packaging—polyethylene terephthalate, or PET—into L-DOPA. The process involves first breaking down PET waste—some 50 million tonnes of which are produced annually—into chemical building blocks of terephthalic acid. Molecules of terephthalic acid are then transformed into L-DOPA by the engineered bacteria through a series of biological reactions."

I also found the report about an old study from a woman in the audience very interesting: "[...]in the American classrooms, if a kid put his problems on the board and he made a mistake, uhh, you know, it was not seen as good thing. However, in Japan, when a kid put his work on the board and there was a mistake, the teacher made a big thing on how grateful the class was, because they could learn from that mistake. And so the whole difference in pedagogic outlook on praising what we can learn, from what a mistake was, was exactly what I got from what you were saying today." #education #teaching
