@elizayer have you seen https://youtu.be/FlQYU3m1e80 where he does the math on cooling? It's hard but not crazy hard. It's still a terrible idea though.

@sundogplanets Presumably you can take more but shorter exposures and stack them to lose little data and not need much more time? Or is that harder?

@ipsquiggle All three Strong Towns books are fantastic. Not Just Bikes is also a good starting point on YouTube.

@greenpeace No, making public transit good and worth taking is the fastest way to slash emissions. Public transit is already stupid cheap relative to owning a car. The problem is that public transit is often not competitive on time, reliability or convenience, so it needs to be better. If reducing the fares reduces the funding to maintain or improve the quality of service, reducing the fares is counterproductive.

@timbray@cosocial.ca My current summary of the trajectory of AI is that it is fantastic for the individual and terrible for society. No matter your goal, AI can help or at worst be useless. But when used by people carelessly or maliciously, it can cause huge harm, possibly outweighing the benefits to the individual. It sucks that neither can see the other side's argument.

@janl@narrativ.es Do you have a specific example of what people say after brushing aside ethics? I'm curious what type of argument they're making where they feel justified in doing so. Is it they are saying even ignoring ethics it'd be a bad idea, or that it'd be good if you only you ignore ethics?
