1/7 BREAKING: A US court has just sided with fossil fuel pipeline giant Energy Transfer and ordered Greenpeace International and Greenpeace entities in the US to pay them US$ 345 million.

This is a billionaire-backed attack on the right to protest. A thread ⤵️🧵

We asked politicians to drink nitrate-contaminated water from rural kitchen taps. 90% of them said no.

While rural communities face increased health risks as a result of nitrate contamination, politicians are failing to act.

It's time for the nitrate limit for drinking water to be lowered in line with current health science.

Chris Bishop is weakening freshwater rules to allow corporations to pollute without consequences. Meanwhile, the Hutt River - in his own electorate - is so polluted with toxic algae that it's unsafe for swimming.

Maybe Chris should focus on cleaning up his own backyard, instead of enabling freshwater pollution in other parts of the country.

Today Greenpeace activists called on Environment Southland to declare a nitrate emergency, after a report revealed that 15,000 Southlanders could be exposed to unsafe nitrate in drinking water.

The alarm bells are ringing, and it's time for action.

Join us in calling for safe drinking water for all - sign the petition now: https://action.greenpeace.org.nz/petition/agriculture-nitrate-limits-drinking-water #nzpol

The Luxon Government is choosing roads over people and oil over our future. Making public transport free is the fastest way to slash emissions, ease the cost-of-living crisis, and stop our dependency on expensive, dirty fuels.

THIS IS NOT A DRILL.

Fonterra just admitted that it broke the law with misleading claims on its Anchor Butter packaging.

While it claimed to be '100% New Zealand Grass-fed', in reality a Fonterra dairy cow can eat up to 3 kilograms of palm kernel linked to rainforest destruction. Every. Single. Day.

Sign the petition and call on Fonterra to end all palm kernel use on its farms: https://greenpeace.nz/e9nh05 #nzpol

As the Iran attacks show, fossil fuel dependence and waging war in a region responsible for more fossil fuel production than any other is inherently expensive and dangerous.

Murky indeed . The Fisheries Amendment Bill a.k.a "the ocean exploitation bill" should be rejected. We need real ocean protection - like banning bottom trawling from where it does the most harm.

A spike in the price of LNG because of the conflict in Iran highlights how risky the Luxon government's plan is to import LNG as a back-up.

Instead of spending a billion plus dollars on a LNG terminal and locking NZ into using more climate-cooking fossil fuels, the government should be investing in renewable energy sources like wind and solar.

Greenpeace is deeply concerned by the US & Israel military strikes on Iran. This violence will not bring security—it only risks further destabilising the region and deepening human suffering.

We call for an immediate halt to military action and a return to diplomacy. #Iran

Not only will New Zealanders have to pay a gas tax for the government's planned LNG terminal, but they're being warned that it could raise energy prices and carbon emissions.

The Fisheries Amendment Bill is 'rotten to the core' - the small back down today from the government is not the end. We think this bill needs to be voted down - and not pass it's first reading in parliament.

When Christopher Luxon told Tova O’Brien on Breakfast this morning, “My job is the CEO,” it wasn’t just a slip of the tongue. It was a window into how he thinks leadership works and cuts right to the heart of the problem we’re seeing in New Zealand’s environmental and social politics today.

This damning Environment Southland report paints a very clear picture. Southland has a drinking water crisis on its hands, caused by dairy industry pollution - and it's putting the health of rural families at risk.

Orange roughy are amazing. Test your knowledge here! This deep sea fish can live to be up to 200 years old. But bottom trawling is wiping out roughy numbers and habitat. That's why we're backing roughy for Fish of the Year. Votes close this weekend!!!

Building a LNG terminal doesn't stack up full stop. The war on Iran is severely disrupting gas supplies and puts New Zealanders at the mercy of acute shortages, spiking power bills. We have all the wind, sun and renewable energy potential we need right here.

4/7 US$ 345 million.

That’s what Greenpeace International and Greenpeace entities in the US have been ordered to pay.

It’s the biggest damage award ever imposed on Greenpeace organisations. It’s meant to shut the movement up.

Across the world, those who speak out are facing corporate intimidation – all so billionaires and corporations can keep getting richer while the planet burns.
