Open post Terin Stock @terinjokes@toots.meetwoof.com · 6mo ago Replying to @joenash@hachyderm.io I need someone with a full working Rockband/guitar hero setup to show up and run Clone Hero/YARG nights, please @joenash If I get a ticket I can bring my open hardware modded Guitar Hero controller. But I don't have the drum kit. 😞
Open post Terin Stock @terinjokes@toots.meetwoof.com · 5mo ago Replying to @andy_warb@mastodon.social
There's a delivery company in the Netherlands that seem to handle a lot of stuff from China. The deliver using electric Bakfeits and overall, I think they're awesome. There's just one thing. They don't mark the parcel as out for delivery until they hand it over. So the doorbell rings (unexpectedly) you take the parcel then you get a flood of emails and notifications saying the parcel is on its way. Its just so backwards!
@andy_warb@mastodon.social Peddler? I usually get the out for delivery notifications in the morning and then 12 hours it actually shows up.

Open post Terin Stock @terinjokes@toots.meetwoof.com · 9mo ago Replying to @Peetz0r@hsnl.social To anyone who wants to bring their why2025 badge to 39c3, don't forget to bring your antenna. If you don't have yours anymore, I am bringing a few kits with an antenna and connector (thanks to @a51c ). I have 7 of them with a half-decent antenna for €6, and 2 of them with a the original badge antenna for €3. The LoRa module on the badge also requires two bodge wires to be soldered. Two pieces of wire and instructions are included in the kits. On some badges it may be required to remove some epoxy around one of the battery holders, and even if it isn't, it may make soldering the bodge wires easier. You may also want to make your badge safer and more compact by removing the battery holders entirely. I am also bringing some epoxy removal kits for free (they're just alcohol wipes and disposable vinyl gloves). #why2025 #39c3 #meshcore #badge #bodge #soldering #epoxy #safety #congress #hashtagspam @Peetz0r Do you have any tips on removing the cured epoxy? My wireless chip is covered in it.
Open post Terin Stock @terinjokes@toots.meetwoof.com · 9mo ago Replying to @Peetz0r@hsnl.social @terinjokes Assuming you won't be using 18650 cells in your badge: Get some disposable gloves. The stuff is not healthy.Remove the battery holders entirely. You could do that with just spudgering under the battery holder. Don't worry too much about their solder pads, you won't be needing them (also they might very well survive). That should have removed most of the cured epoxy. Use the plastic spudger again to remove any that's left.Use 70% IPA wipes to remove any uncured epoxy. You can also use the liquid stuff directly but there's a chance you damage the display and/or keyboard (which is fixable). @Peetz0r thanks, I was able to get most of the epoxy off. I'm out of time today, but after Congress I can get it wired up.

Open post Terin Stock @terinjokes@toots.meetwoof.com · 7mo ago Replying to @Photo55@mastodon.social Unrelated to the merits of this fun story... Putting the batteries in a battery box, with a few cm of wire to the electronics box, would mean that leaking cells would only require a new battery box. @Photo55@mastodon.social battery acid has a tendency to wick up wire, unfortunately.
Open post Terin Stock @terinjokes@toots.meetwoof.com · 5mo ago Replying to @kagihq@mastodon.social Tip 💡 You can build a Kagi Lens for shopping that only pulls from specific sources you want to support, like independent stores and small businesses. Put your money where your values are. @kagihq@mastodon.social I wonder if there's a way to have a lens for shops in the EU/EEA (and who therefore correctly charge VAT)
