Suomen antropologi (journal)

With a lot of new people joining the #Fediverse, it's maybe time for a new #introduction as we've been here for a couple of years now.

This is the account of Suomen antropologi: The Journal of the Finnish Anthropological Society.

We are a fully #openaccess, peer-reviewed and English language general #anthropology journal. We have no APCs, fees or any embargoes as our activity is funded by the membership payments of the society.

Suomen antropologi: The Journal of the Finnish Anthropological Society has just released the last publication for 2025, with the following contents:

Editorial Note: how the journal is Choosing a Collective Path Towards a Collective Ethos.

ARTICLES

* Maria Vyatchina (University of Tartu) analyses early twentieth century Soviet biomedical propaganda disseminated through Udmurt literature to examine the cultural exploitation of women’s bodies and the devaluation of Indigenous knowledge by Soviet officials.

* Heidi Konttinen (University of Lapland) takes the reader into the world of Inuit knowledge on seal skin processing to consider the societal role of Inuit women’s labour visà-vis West Greenlandic regalia.

* Zahra Edalati (Tampere University) focuses on the resistance amongst women’s rights activists who identify as Muslim in Iran, uncovering how they represented themselves prior to the emergence of the 2022 Mahsa movement.

ANTROPOLOGIST’s TOOLKIT ESSAY SERIES

* Tommi Kotonen (University of Jyväskylä) and Aila Mustamo (University of Turku) that examines how an ethically sustainable ethnography of the Far Right can be conducted.

Additionally, the issue features essays based on keynotes by Tom Boellstorff and Soumhya Venkatesan, a research report by Wang Yiyang and Sebastjan Jemec, and a review of the book 'The Invention of Tradition in China: Story of a Village and Nation Remade' by Suvi Rautio, reviewed by Dayabati Roy.
