@substandard@chaosfem.tw
A very subbie trans girl. Very late 40s*, transitioned last millennium. Commie, vegetarian, indeterminately neurodivergent, and an obsessive science fiction / fantasy geek. 日本語を勉強します。
Poly, kinky, and mostly t4t. Living with a wonderful long-term nesting partner; pet of Freyja; and girlfriend of Bri.
Accidentally a plural system; elle (📜) is usually fronting, but you might hear from Chalice (🏆: Hi! I'm a bat! *waves excitedly*) or Sandra (🗡️) on occasion.
(* as in the late substandardellesubstandard)

I'm currently watching the Hugo Awards. The Lodestar (for YA books) went to Coffeeshop in an Alternate Universe, a cute lesbian romance by an enby and apparently poly author, which is pretty cool.

Well, I deleted my Duolingo account. They did another rearrangement of the Japanese course so my listed progress no longer matches up with what lessons I've actually done. And they're an awful company I wasn't happy about using anyway.
Which means I need a new way to learn Japanese. I'm already using WaniKani, which is great for learning to recognise readings and meanings of vocab including kanji. And Bunpro for grammar, which I'm not very enthusiastic about but should probably do more with.
What I really want is something that's good for learning/practising translation of complete sentences, in both directions. Ideally including typing in Japanese, not picking the right words from a list. Practice understanding spoken Japanese too would be a bonus. And no AI slop. Any suggestions?
Edit: Preferably web-based. I can use Android apps, but I'd much rather type on an actual computer. Using a phone would be better for hand writing practice, I guess, but that's not my top priority.

@Greenseer@toot.wales There's no need to apologise! Of course worrying about Dotty is going to be foremost in your mind
I'm glad the prognosis is looking more favourable 🤞

@ellis@transfem.social @siblingsofthevoid@void.lgbt Yeah, it definitely requires a degree of closeness; not necessarily being partners, but definitely heading in that direction.

@muddle@infosec.exchange I think I've got kanji covered already with WaniKani. Satori Reader looks promising, though! I think I'm at about the right level for their easiest content.

At least you won't be short of opportunities to practice, though! I'd like to visit Japan again one day, and I'm hoping I'll understand the language enough by then for it to be of some practical use.

@SleepyCatten@cultofshiv.wtf I think I know the one you mean, but I can't find it either, sorry. Did you share it on Discord? Someone with access to the relevant server might be able to find it there.

@muddle@infosec.exchange I haven't explicitly been working towards the JLPT, but it wouldn't be a bad idea. I would guess I'm probably close to ready for N5, though I won't have covered everything in it.
Yes, online interactive stuff is easier to stick with.

@mioontje@girlcock.club Just not knowing, I think. There are all kinds of ways you could make use of me, things you could do to me or make me do. That you might use a knife on me is particularly scary.

@muddle@infosec.exchange I am absolutely a ワープロバカ! 😅 Duolingo had occasional writing exercises recently, and it would be good for me to do more of that.

@sena@chaosfem.tw Last time I could basically recognise kana transliterations of English words and not much more. Now I know quite a few kanji and more vocab and grammar, though I'm not at all confident I could manage any kind of in-person conversation in Japanese.

@CharlotteEowyn@chaosfem.tw Is the hair issue generalised thinning, not a bald patch? Maybe get your zinc levels tested?
I don't know about injections, but you could comfortably double your pill dosage.
