I have completed Lorelei and the Laser Eyes. It didn't quite fully scratch the itch for another Outer Wilds-like but it came very close. Probably the best I've played in that general gameplay-space since finishing Outer Wilds.
I did have to look up a few puzzles that were utterly incomprehensible to me but I did solve most of it on my own. This is how most of these types of puzzle games go for me.
The PS2-era Resident Evil/Silent Hill influence is extremely blatant and excellent, vibes are quite spooky, but this really isn't a horror game, the puzzles are the focus. I think it's pretty clearly drawing from House of Leaves as well.
Fans of Outer Wilds should play Lorelei and the Laser Eyes
did you guys know learning is actually fun
I don't even want to know what vibe-coded nonsense led to GitHub being so fucking slow to open files when you just click a link that it's actually faster to just open them in a new tab. How do you fuck up AJAX so badly that it's actually faster to reload your entire webapp than just load new data???
everyone say "thank you russian transgender witches who crack music creation software"

you've heard of "gear acquisition syndrome", new get ready for "workflow optimization syndrome" where you keep looking for new tools or setups to improve your workflow rather than actually doing work because the worms in your brain insist that there's no point in doing work until you have the perfect system
hey hi new blog post kbai https://voidsleeper.xyz/blog/founded-on-contradictions/
Despite everything going on with me I really feel like I've started to come back to life in recent weeks
My headcanon is that Gandalf's staff really is just a walking stick but he hardcore pretends it's a magic focus, up to and including pretending to trick a guard into letting him into Rohan with it, so that if an enemy ever does waste effort depriving him of it he can catch them unaware by being completely unaffected

my body really just said "oh hey you know how you love food and it's an incredible source of comfort and joy for you? yeah so there's entire regions of cuisine you can never ever try. have fun"
I've spent the last two days looking into the Reticulum protocol and ecosystem and I'm extremely impressed. It's a mesh network transport layer designed to be functional with extremely low bitrate requirements (you could run the damn thing over CW), able to use any hardware layer imaginable from WiFi to LoRa to Bluetooth to packet radio to ethernet (even abstracting TCP away as an "interface"). Addresses are cryptographic identities rather than location-based, so you can be connected to any part of the network topology and it works exactly the same. Propagation nodes even implement store-and-forward so you could totally drop off the face of the earth, pop up again later on another continent, and get all your missed messages assuming there's a route.
It's a mesh network designed for maximum resilience. I feel my love of permacomputing reawakening...
Oh yeah I should link the damn thing ig https://reticulum.network/
Reddit is largely a socialist echo chamber, with increasingly irrelevant content. My contributions are therefore revoked. See you on X.
The most glorious post I've ever seen from u/deleted
Possibly the best thing in the universe is when a scientist looks at the result of an experiment and says "huh...that can't possibly be right" but it's right

@aens@transfem.social @theotheroracle@solarpunk.moe yeah it's literally optimized to be engaging. Big tech built another dopamine trap. It's all they know how to do
I think I dislike "unpalatably-strong dish balanced by a large amount of bland grain" as a culinary style, as is common in Chinese cuisine. They don't balance for me, I just taste bland grain (yum) and unpalatably strong dish (ew) side by side.
Or I'm bad at the cuisine and making it too strong. But I mostly followed the proportions for Chinese Cooking Demystified's recipe for ghost-fire green and found it waaaayyy too strongly herby.
Stephanie Sterling dropped another banger today
Corporate executives don't want you to criticize what they're doing by saying "it's wrong" because if you did, they know you'd be right.

@Primavera@void.lgbt wait until you hear about the russian transgender maids who make post-punk music about how tiny and powerless they feel
honestly ik it's not for everyone but the fewer graphical applications I use the happier I am with my computering
except games ofc all hail video games
btw return the island Lana'i to its rightful inhabitants and Larry Ellison gets the guillotine

@LunaDragofelis@void.lgbt you'd quickly have to implement some kind of legal proof of headmate count tho and the effects that would have on plurality gatekeeping would be...bad

@valthonis@dice.camp yeah and we know canonically that illusion magic is a specialty of Gandalf's! He makes fancy magic fireworks! He definitely can do real combat magic (see balrog fight and when he helps Theodin) but yeah most of his shit is casual illusion work and theatrics
Every time I have to interact with Nix packaging or configuration in any detail beyond just using existing options, I wish I was back on Guix
The advantage to being on Nix is that doesn't happen all that often.

I think I would like to write an evolution simulator, kinda like the Bibites, but have a client-server architecture so you can leave a sim running on one device and then connect with a client to check in on the aquarium
YouTube: keeps recommending me a video titled "John Romero plays MyHouse.wad" with 1.3M views
Me: "am I supposed to know who that is?"
googles it
"Oh." clicks it immediately
I think YouTube broke RSS
Oh hey wallhaven.cc has banned AI art, cool
The demons are telling me to make a custom computing device from stock ICs and then write firmware for it that implements Reticulum over LoRa
for permacomputing reasons
cachyos is quite good actually

@tully@cathode.church I think this attitude is trained into people by our school system where you're so overloaded you have to learn to see education as a chore to be dispensed with and not the thing that makes being alive worthwhile half the time
which is exactly why chatgpt is so popular among students. less time spent on chores means more time spent doing things they like.

@aisling@critters.gay neither it was actually slang for when you're dancing on a houseboat and your movements cause the boat to sway on the water

Maybe for my first Real Haskell Project I'll write a simple CLI mail agent that's basically a glorified script to tie together notmuch, offlineimap, and msmtp.
Okay having built my toy program in Haskell I now need to build a not-a-toy program that's still pretty simple. Hmm.

@Mae for a time yeah I remember it being considered a scientifically-valid hypothesis that was just disproportionately popular among conspiracy theorist types who decide what's true exclusively by what would make the best plot in a thriller

mostly I found this by listening to Jam2Go's "Crash Test" and seeing he listed "shoegaze" as a genre, going "what on earth is that" then seeing that Wikipedia said it inspired "witch house" and saying "ooh what's that" and then Wikipedia said witch house inspired "maidcore" and look I'm a simple witch/doll/dollwitch/robot okay
So someone discovered that you can combine myhouse.wad with a mod that replaces your chainsaw with an extremely powerful riding lawnmower and now it's a speedrun category
