mastodon 4.6.5Here to share my art and crafts.
As for subjects— I really like plants, animals, fungi, clouds, humor, coziness and levity. But I live in the core of a colonial empire bent on destroying this planet for profit, so a lot of my art is related to that.
I pretty much only boost arts, crafts, & direct aid fundraisers.
Some keywords 4 types of art I enjoy: political, practical, amateur, upcycled, queer, cute, handmade, vividly colored, nerdy, vegan, botanical.
Alt-text always, "AI" art never.
My latest print.
Follow me if you want to see more political and nature themed prints from an amateur artist.

My inaugural zines! Of the three, the browsers one got the most interest.
I tabled at my first ever zine fest this weekend!
My favorite thing was how many people were up for trading zines.

I got a used sizzix (hand crank die cut machine) for use as a tiny press to make prints. Slowly but surely learning how to get a decent amount of pressure.

Sure, I know *you* know about the Fediverse.
But I'm pretty pleased with how this one turned out and am looking forward to making into a zine.
@snailrageprints@metroholografix.ca it was a neat project and I learned some things: - I don't particularly like the destruction inherent in the reduction process. I know, I know, all creation is destruction, but I'd rather come out with blocks I could print again and again. -Getting precise registration (aligning the paper with the printing block) with otherwise delightfully wispy deckled paper edges is an incredible challenge
- these color inks are not quite as opaque as I was led to believe, I had to do some additional mixing to get the pure green (shown here) to look green at all upon the red in the combined print. (It first came out looking black) #printMaking #reductionLinocut #reliefPrint #humanArt
@praetor@mstdn.social It's not irony, it's imperialism™️
- popularity has nothing to do with u.s. policy or action
- the u.s. economy runs on the expansion of colonial exploitation, both domestically and all over the world
- the u.s. government protects and serves that economic model with extreme violence
- propaganda romanticizes the imagery you mention. enough people fall for it and/or are coerced by poverty and circumstance into joining the military to staff the constant wars and "conflicts" these last 6 decades
ALSO, white people hating brown and Black people more than they love their own children is absolutely a thing. (And imo, a root cause of lots and lots of violence in this world) Having a child that dies in war is part of serving white supremacist imperial interests, I mean "being a loyal american", and fits neatly into their worldview/part of what raising a family is for in their minds. Teddy Roosevelt said something like "war makes a man of you" and then, though every one of his sons died young in war, he remained committed to racist imperialist violence until his own death. Aaron Bushnell died to show us the truth about this imperialist violence and the genocide in Palestine. Bushnell's parents then publicly stated they still support israel and the u.s. military.
