It is Rotterdam pride today 🎉Ah, apparently some minister in Germany proposed ticket gates on railway stations.
Let me give you a list of railway stations in the Netherlands that have been rebuilt or are currently being rebuilt to fit in ticket gates:
Den Haag Centraal, Den Haag HS, Delft, Amsterdam Zuid, Amsterdam Centraal, Amsterdam Bijlmer ArenA, Utrecht Centraal, Rotterdam Centraal, Breda, Tilburg, Eindhoven Centraal, Arnhem Centraal, Groningen, Zwolle.
You can't just deliver a couple of ticket gates to a station, you completely need to rethink transfer capacity. What happens when a train delivers 600 passengers at once in your station? You need to rethink routing, you can't have an escalator spitting out passengers close to ticket gates. How do you separate train passengers from passengers going to the bus/tram/metro stop or use the station as a connection between city quarters?
If you really want this, you have to spend a lot of money and completely start redesigning and rebuilding stations. Somehow I think the German railways should have other priorities at this moment.

I think it is time that we talk about coniferous forests in Western Europe, like the Netherlands, Belgium, and most of France. Because about 200 years ago, these forests didn't exist over here, but civilization planted all those pine trees to get rid of other landscapes with unwanted properties, like heath or sand dunes. All of the original forestation in this part of the continent was deciduous forest. However, pine trees grow quick, don't mind the lack of water, their wood is very much appreciated as construction material that was very much needed during the industrialization, and we love to put smaller pine trees as Christmas tree in our houses. But pine trees make the soil very acidic which affects much of the indigenous scrubs. Pine trees can do with little water, but because of that are also very prone to fires as we currently see in France. And lastly some of those forests are now very old, but that wasn't never supposed to be because when the trees were planted they had a commercial objective, that disappeared because of deindustrialisation and the introduction of other construction materials like plastic. So maybe it is time to rethink our western European forests?

Today I was told that Microsoft CoPilot is transitioning from a monthly fixed fee to a token based pricing later this year, and users are already being served indications of the new price based on their current CoPilot usage. Some users now pay 40 dollars/month but the calculation is indicating over 1000 dollars in monthly token usage. This is almost certainly going to harm some business models…

The fun thing about a campus is that they can put some words on the roof, like “Process & Energy” and nobody would blink an eye, but if you do put those words on a building in regular society, you would think some weird dictatorship is happening 😅

Seems like ECD 9563 didn’t like the taste of Dutch electricity and came to a halt only a couple meters north of the Dutch border. So now Eurostar traffic is probably a mess for the remainder of the day, on top of those cancelled trains.
