A lot of companies love this idea, because it also tied their users 1:1 to real people's identities for the sake of serving ads. Ad space on a site where everyone is ID checked is a lot more valuable. @index https://this.weekinsecurity.com/papers-please-age-verification-laws-threaten-everyones-online-security-and-privacy/

Please. I keep being so sad that large creators I like are moving to Substack and just reinforcing this. https://buttondown.com exists if you really want a network of support.
RE: @savetheAI@mastodon.social
This was always the obvious outcome. AI is deeply inefficient since it's brute-forcing every output. Lots of folks aren't seeing that, though, because AI is so deeply subsidized you're only paying ~5% of the actual cost of tokens.
Anyone else noticing the energy around AI has shifted dramatically in the last 2 weeks from big tech execs? Everyone is shifting goal-posts away from LLMs, working to remove AI from their branding and pitches. Lots of folks are distancing themselves. Feels like some shit is about to go down with a frontier model builder.
Wow, this is my shocked face.
Been on the tarmac at EWR (Newark) for over an hour now due to a weather ground stop… and it’s not looking like we’re moving anytime soon.
Obviously it’s time to start a new book!
Another reason ALPR needs to be removed from every town and state… This is a massive overreach that was easy to see coming.
So sad, at a time we should be doubling down on being able to enjoy nature.

Crazy in mid May.
Universal programs are very good for a number of reasons; not the least of which is it helps anchor equality early in life. This framing is insanely toxic, don’t fall for it. https://seattletimes.com/opinion/editorials/gov-ferguson-promises-free-lunch-for-all-k-12-kids-even-those-who-can-pay/
This gives big “vaccines stop death, fealty has gone down, therefore we don’t need vaccines” energy.
I think it’s pretty clear that republican goals require most people to be poor, disenfranchised and uneducated; so they have no hope to leave their poverty or change the system that keeps them poor.

TIL: Beehiiv has a free plan. Why on EARTH is anyone still going to the Substack Nazi bar?

Remember kids when we didn’t use water to weed the poor from the rich? How silly we were! Gotta monetize thirst.

Just had the sheer terror and pleasure of arriving *exactly* on time for my flight.
I’m on NorthSky, so I guess that makes me deep cover? XD

Cities shouldn’t be approving new stadiums.

Very disappointing to see this. Liberals again thinking the rich and big business are their friends; they aren’t.

I've never met someone who liked using Canvas. Maybe this finally convinces some universities to move to... who am I kidding, like universities will make positive choices.
