I want to note, too, that all of those claims were known absurdities when he said them. Mars was and, at least as he conceived, is never going to happen. The details he ignores are the whole puzzle. Middle management types love the idea that he's just cut through the faff of the overthinkers to get to brass tacks. No, he's ignoring the core logistic impossibility of all of those proposals. He doesn't understand anything and doesn't think he needs to--his opinions are worthless.

If one more person tells me "AI is neither good nor bad, it's just a tool" I'm going to throw my head through a wall.

It's bad. It's bad for the environment, the price of everything, jobs, and--perhaps most relevantly--it's bad at being a fucking tool.

If I had a crowbar that fucked up as much as AI, it'd be national news and we'd all ban it for breach of consumer confidence.

I'm struggling to find early collected tales about #BabaYaga that reference the chicken-leg house. I know there is a collection in the 70s with it, but I have a couple collections of Russian folklore that make no references in any of her tales.

Whats the earliest collected reference to her chicken leg house?

Recently had to look at #Instagram on a friend's phone.

Holy shit, how did I ever use that app? It's like a child screaming in your face then hitting you with a billboard.

@dfyx there was an article some years ago about how Tesla basically succeeded in spite of Elon. Given how the cybertruck, his personal project, went I think that is probably true. Any success we see from "his" company occurs in spite of him. I remember a dude was trying to tell me why Elon was so special and he said "there was this exploding clip that cost $30,000 at NASA and he pointed at the engineer and said, 'make it for $1,000'. They did!" And I was like, "how is that his accomplishment?"

The brief summary of the issue is that--under capitalism--the benefits of labour-saving devices contribute to the profit of the owners of those machines, not to the workers they replace. IOW, unless workers own the machines, the machines just contribute to the wealth gap.

@natasha_jay I honestly think he believes his yes-men are reflecting a majority. All this exodus? He's too arrogant to really accept that's reflective of the actual majority who either will use the service less or will just up & leave. Most won't come here (and that's for the best tbh) but most don't like his changes and will stop using it. He just won't accept it until it's way too late of ever.
