Too lazy to build this joke; here it is flat packed:
Apple event tomorrow
iPhone Fold
Folding phone has hinge
You TURN part of the phone around the hinge
John TERNus
Tern/turn homophone
You put it together. It's cheap and flimsy, but it works.

I tinker at my homelab, and you're using it right now. Open software, data ownership, privacy, and right to repair are super important to me.

I work for GitLab
but they don't endorse me at all.

Having been using self-hosted Immich since April (with no Google sync since May), I'm now deleting every single photo in my Google account, since 2013. 🎉🎉
Immich has been very solid, EXCEPT the ML stuff that's supposed to scan the images. I can't search for ANYTHING in the image (text, subjects, etc.). That's a pretty minor complaint in the grand scheme of things.
I'm at the Dunkin'.
I'm at the Jimmy John's.
I'm at the combination Dunkin'/Jimmy John's.
Every time I receive a ticket confirmation email and it doesn't contain an attached calendar event with all the pertinent information (including links to the tickets and/or a QR code), I am reminded that the vast, overwhelming majority of software exists not to be helpful to the end consumer, but to make the software manufacturer more money.
Phase 1 (already done): require "AI" usage for continued employment
Phase 2 (early stages): make "AI" consumption allowance a "part of compensation"
Phase 3: "your consumption exceeds your total comp, actually, so we're going to be billing you"
@nyquildotorg@gts.nyquil.org I found that the moment I gave my TV access to the Internet, it got noticably (50%+) slower doing trivial things like navigating menus. That's not even mentioning that there are ads scattered all over. I factory reset it and refused to connect it to the Internet ever again.
A different TV was flooding my entire network with scan requests, essentially DDoSing every device on the network and bringing the gigabit access down to ~100Mbps.
@paul_ipv6@infosec.exchange I had to do a mental double take when I parsed the argument he was actively making in front of a state legislative committee. Wild.

Just start reading through that until you understand.
No one should take anyone who uses Go seriously ever again.
@nyquildotorg@gts.nyquil.org oh just saying this was enough for me to actually go confirm what I said and ... joke's on me, unchecking this (defaulted on) seems to have stopped it from appearing at startup
@nyquildotorg@gts.nyquil.org 😅
The only downside is my TV now shows a VERY large, very garish banner like "accept our terms and connect to the internet to use all the features" for a while after the TV turns on. I think it can be dismissed (not permanently) but it displays for just short enough of a time that I haven't cared enough to learn which buttons to press to make it go away faster.
Whenever I hear about Hantavirus, it's always in connection with cruises, and I finally decided to actually look it up and... It's rats/mice. It's only spread from rats/mice (feces, urine, bites, scratches) and it does not spread human-to-human. This feels like a buried lede. Sure, you can't go around claiming a rat infestation with proof but the headline should not be "Suspected hantavirus outbreak" it should be "Suspected rat plague on ship".
I understand why the industry is calling these "1D" versus "2D" (they're read in 1 dimension versus being read in 2 dimensions), but this is a very stupid naming scheme that is entirely self-inflicted. They are "barcodes" (the old ones, formatted as a bar, read in 1 dimension) and "QR codes" (the new ones, formatted as a square, read in 2 dimensions). Calling a QR code a "2D barcode" is wacky and baffling.

@davidcelis@xoxo.zone can't speak to the migration experience, but I've been satisfied with self-hosted Bitwarden, if you're evaluating that kind of option.
Stupid. Instead of getting A predator, Death went out and killed THE Predator. You really have to be hyper-specific with this guy.
@nyquildotorg@gts.nyquil.org "Extra Cheesy" is the best, and I find these essentially intolerable.
@jaredwhite@indieweb.social Unfortunately, Ive was able to bring the Apple Luxury Car into existence and it's exactly as bad as you'd expect: https://www.ferrari.com/en-EN/auto/ferrari-luce
