For #postmarketOS folks: the latest mobile-config-firefox update fixed #firefox camera selection for #pipewire (and thus #libcamera). So on devices with working cameras you should be able to do video calls now OOTB.

Some sites might run into a remaining webrtc issue though (the camera freezing after a short time) - I have some pending patches for that, with a FF test build at https://gitlab.alpinelinux.org/alpine/aports/-/merge_requests/105605 (mrtest add -a 105605).
With that all major video chat sides should work.

@libcamera@floss.social and already shipping in #postmarketOS edge - including some experimental CCM tuning files \o/ Thanks for spinning up that release! For other #linuxmobile devs/users (e.g. #mobian): you might want to a look at the downstream tuning changes in https://gitlab.postmarketos.org/postmarketOS/pmaports/-/merge_requests/8991 - hopefully to be upstreamed in the near future (would need more sensor drivers to be upstream in the kernel).

@tiol@mastodon.uno @libcamera@floss.social Yep! And while there's still lot's of work to be done, the plan is to build up a public repo (currently at https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/camera/tuning/) with raw data so people can:

  1. contribute capture data for more sensors
  2. create tunings from the data according to their preferences - I'm being told that most vendors these days try to make their cameras look similar to iPhones while people might prefer e.g. a more "scientifically correct" output or something else entirely

First try to create #libcamera swISP tuning files for the OnePlus6 with #ideasonboard folks at #embeddedworld. Unfortunately we hit an issue that we couldn't fix on-side - got a few todos to make sure things work out next time!

I didn't implement the same for lavapipe (Vulkan) as things work a little bit different there - but if there's interest it shouldn't be hard to make that happen as well. On that note: as of the just released Mesa 26.0.4 lavapipe support for YCbCr formats should be in decent shape, for everyone needing to handle video playback in Vulkan.

@verdre@mastodon.social Not claiming to understand the details here, but it sounds quite feasible to make the oom daemon freeze some memory heavy cgroup instead of killing it. In Wayland compositors like Mutter we'd already detect that a corresponding window is frozen and show a close/wait dialog - doesn't sound *too* difficult to me to hook up some APIs to detect that the process has been frozen for a reason and offer to resume it :/

@p2panda@autonomous.zone @postmarketOS@treehouse.systems I think @tbernard@mastodon.social just made designs for QR code sharing/scanning to make the process even smoother :)

@z3ntu@fosstodon.org Really cool to see! Re camera sensor drivers - are you reusing the IMX363 driver from the Pixel3a? And if so, do you think it can be upstreamed, or do we have to take the MIPI CCS route?

@CalcProgrammer1 And it's using the rqrr library, nice! That's the same one that's also used in the latest version of Snapshot/Decoder/Warp/etc. and compared to zbar has the advantages of being written in rust (really nice when dealing with untrusted input) and supporting utf8. When it comes to detection it's not fully on par yet, though, and struggles in various situations while working perfectly in others. Problem cases include Settings wifi QR codes and scanning from apps in dark-mode.

@fooishbar@octodon.social @swick@fosstodon.org Especially in a community that has distrust of authorities as one of its core motivations. In light of recent events in the Gnome community and the board I for one hope that something in that direction will get institutionalized there and in other FLOSS organizations.

Small detail but really nice to see: #Firefox on #linux finally (re-)landed rounded bottom corners, shipping in 153 :toot:
