@jorge@social.jagedn.dev I think the Chinese will pressure, and there might be eventually one company that goes truly open source with a model. Also, a lot of research is open. A Mozilla LLM model park so to speak... even though Mozilla really lost a lot of credit.
@jorge@social.jagedn.dev They likely played the burn-tokens and get recognized game, as many larger companies did. It was not about sensible work, just about weird metrics.

We have been running Gitlab Community for ages. Too many security releases IMHO but besides that, it runs fine. Self-hosted on a private Hetzner machine in Finland.

Just got the information that I have to pay 2 cents less in May per kWh electricity than April. 28.2 Cents. It is a dynamic price and set per month based on energy prices at EEX.

@cwebber@social.coop I agree. There is less public information for future training for anyone as well as similar code due to more AI written software also in the open space. I expect an input standstill until someone invents non-LLM AI for coding.

Even if we would stop using AI for production coding, the fact alone that you can build great demos and prototypes to show people what could be done, is priceless. Just churning through ideas as a product owner without the need to first sell your blurry ideas to someone else to get those prototyped... Priceless.

Liebe deutsche Politik, ohne großen Wurf, der allen wehtut wird es nix. Wir brauchen eine flexiblen Arbeitsmarkt, weniger Steuern und weniger Steuerregelwerk, aber mehr Kontrolle.
@jorge@social.jagedn.dev I also think that self-hosted models will become more popular with smaller companies and coders. Not the latest stuff, but good enough. The price war will start soon again and sooner or later the overall cost must drop for larger hosters as well to make it work.
Moving to their own chips is just the start.
