@pathfinder@beige.party @murdoc@autistics.life @akamran@indieweb.social . unfortunately, burnout is an awakening. . I lived unhatched and trying hard and talking my divergent anti-spanking shit to everyone, and the disaster was when I found out no-one had heard or believed anything I ever said, which, just like here, was a lot. Nobody knew me despite my having expressed myself for decades, my whole life. . That’s an awakening, now I know a little better what was going on - but it’s an awakening to some bullshit, hence the depression and the burnout. And to the point, does it end, well, I’m hoping I can get used to it, it’s been ten years and I haven’t said it out loud to myself before, but something might be changing. . Maybe the panic is letting off. 💜 But the situation, not being able to talk to people, or living in a world of people no-one can talk to (not sure which it is) is still sad and stressful. . @autistics@fedigroups.social

You’re supposed to have awakenings, right? . It hurts, but is it really the good kind of pain, the kind that hurts but gets better? Knowledge, living a little closer to reality, those are supposed to be good things in non-Allistic World. That’s what “getting better,” is supposed to be, as opposed to continuing in delusion? . Right? . This is my head out in front of my heart. It doesn’t usually feel like the good kind of pain, or it hasn’t been feeling like that. But just maybe it should. . I mean, if it was all the bad kind that doesn’t get better it ought to have killed me by now. 💜

OK, so, I’ve turned it around. . It’s a pity the sloppy string spread at the nut, otherwise the Martin’s nut fits perfectly, except I missed on the spread and not in a repairable way, you can’t fill those slots for the A strings and cut away all that’s left of the original. I’m still going to get it set up proper. . These strings are finally done, stretched and some broken and sounding it - but according to fedex, the tuners are coming tomorrow. . Still a thing or two, there’s the extra two inlay dots to come out, and with the action better I can see a little body rise, I need to take the highest frets down, above #15. . Then the new tuners and strings. Then when it settles into tune again and I play the sheen off the new strings, we’ll see what we got. 💜🎶🎸 . /58 #Luthier #Guitar #Framus12StringProject

Ah, the tuners don’t fit with the fancy ferrules, I had to put the basic sort back on. . That’s another thing you can make room for on a six string but not on a twelve, live and learn. 😀 . Sometimes I have a good idea but I don’t know it’s good and I ruin the execution of it, this is the case with this wonky nut, but with the bridge pins, I had a good idea but simply didn’t implement it enough. Now I’ve shaped them all smaller and all the same, and it’s almost interference free. . New tuners, new set of strings, action at a reasonable height. I think I’ll play it this way for a while, break in these strings, see if I can figure out how to play it, see how it sounds before I fix the nut. . Project over, I think. The rest later, an epilogue. 💜🎶 Except of coarse I’ll show you how it sounds if I can make it work. 🎸 Pics: . /60 #Luthier #Guitar #Framus12StringProject

VERY happy to report that seems to have worked, at least for most of them, one or two are still a bit stiff, we’ll keep worrying away at that, but a big success. . They LOOK amazing, vintage where it looks right, strips and knobs, and shiny new posts and wheels. That’s a result. 👍 . Now again it’s a matter of trying to be patient if the repair needs to cure - but does superglue need that, I don’t seem to believe so - so next is stringing it up again, see how the nut is working, I’ve bought some of the supposedly warmer sounding strings, see if that helps. . I hadn’t noticed, but the blue pack D’addario strings I had used do say “extra bright,” all over them. 🙄 . /65 . #Luthier #Guitar #Framus12StringProject

Ha! I’ve been stringing and unstringing this thing for a few weeks, and the break near the headstock opened up at the start - now for the first time I felt a sharp edge in the other break, the one at the other end of the neck on the . . . heel, is it called? 😳 . It didn’t open up yet, the action hasn’t risen. But my fingernail did go right in on one side. . Hoping to nip that in the bud, I unstrung it again, scratched that crack open a little, gave it some warm water and then filled it with super glue and clamped it. I know it’s super glue, but I still plan to leave the clamp on overnight, as someone said, that’s the most important thing. . I went down to Long and McQuade for a warmer set of strings. The thing is so bright I can’t stand it. I suppose I’ll try to tweak the nut again before I put them on and see if the break stays put. And the repair needs lacquer, so the glue can dry for another day or two as well. . So close!!! LOL 🤣 . /62 . #Luthier #Guitar #Framus12StringProject

I think I’m done, except there are new tuners coming, and maybe I can upgrade the nut and saddle some day, but the woodwork is done and I just finished the frets. . You know, you look at my fretting and especially the inlay dots on this one and you would never call me anal retentive - but I did do this whole job with a single set of strings, that’s gotta count. 😜 . OK, the regular G string broke a few unstringings ago, but I tied a knot in it and it’s still OK, all those little octave strings and I didn’t break any of ‘em. Weird, this job has been charmed. 😇 . I may treat myself to a new set when the tuners get here, make that easy, all pleasure. . still not sure it’s small enough for me, but I’ll try it for a while. . audio sometime soon 💜🎶 . EDIT TO ADD: pics and: I’ve worked out that I can live with the off centre inlays if I simply lose the two furthest from centre and nearest the sound hole, just pop them out and fill the holes, no-one needs those. 👍 . ANOTHER EDIT TO ADD: I mean, if I put those two on again, where? Properly in the middle and so out of line with the rest, or in line with the rest, wrong on purpose? LOL. I think I’d feel like a fool either way. 🫣😜 . THIRD EDIT TO ADD: received it June 29th., this morning I found it in tune and I just started playing it, that’s one month. 👍 . /55 #Luthier #Guitar #Framus12StringProject

Well, I thought I had a can of black paint, but I guess I finished it. I hate to buy a can of paint for what less than 20 square inches, just for a pick guard, I mean, I’ll do it, but I hate it so I’ll do it real slow. . I strung it up loose and put it away, cleaned up the whole project, put the tools and the table and the vice away, and now when I can’t wait anymore I’ll tune it and see what happens, see if I’ve straightened the neck enough, see if it stays in one piece. Hopefully no news for at least a week, hopefully longer. 😬🫣 Cheers /39 . #Luthier #Guitar #Framus12StringProject

So in the interest of adding a little strength to this already broken and then pared down neck, I’ve carved a sort of a cleat between the nut end of the fretboard and the tuners, sort of extended the fretboard beyond the nut, and then cut a slot in the new piece for the nut, hopefully that will help. . Plus I polished up the logo and lacquered over it to hopefully stop the tarnishing. I had only polished the name when I took this pick, not the banner part yet. . And I’ve built a pick guard out of veneers, and the top layer is striped maple like the back and sides, but the same stain I used for the neck turned the pick guard chocolate brown, not in this guitar’s palette at all. I’ll have to paint it black after all. . A few little details, that, plus I have enough side dot materal left to do the four on the highest frets, #15- #21, at least on the right handed side. . There will be some finishing details but they can wait until the very end, if I can make it work. Now mostly, I have to see how long I can wait for the glue to cure before I string it and carry on setting it all up. The cleat resets the counter for that, I’m at Day One again. . EDIT TO ADD: I realized I really have no data, no previous experience of doing these things with these glues, the Revenant was a completely different job and when I did this sort of job before I hadn’t yet heard of hide glue, the Vega’s fretboard is never coming off again. I have no idea how long to wait. . I just guessed that I ought to give it a month, but having no real clue and nothing to do, I doubt I’ll be able to wait that long. I suppose a week after the cleat thingy (and two weeks after the break and the fretboard) is my guess at a minimum, that’s when waiting will get difficult. That would mean next weekend. 😬🫣🎶 . /38 #Luthier #Guitar #Framus12StringProject

Well the strings make a massive difference, sound, and maybe tension and so action - it’s suddenly too LOW (I know, I can’t believe I said that either) - I mean, maybe the repair wasn’t just cosmetic either, I don’t know. . I only just set the action where I thought it needed to be before this repair - by sanding the bottom off the saddle. Now I want it back, LOL. Having said that, it’s awfully nice this way, plus you learn about your fret surfaces when it’s this low, found out the second fret was still a bit high on the bass side, and it still looks like some body rise. . Still tuning it upwards, waiting for the strings to settle and kind of hoping the wood will too, a little. . The tuners still suck. 😠 . /66 #Luthier #Guitar #Framus12StringProject

OK, I’ve done most of this a time or two but I was getting ready to pretty aggressively go after the top of this fretboard for a second time today when suddenly I got the Fear, realized I was rushing in, and remembering that Elvis would not be impressed, I thought about until I realized what was wrong. . I’ve replaced the adjustable saddle, this work has to be perfect, and I was thinking I had a long ways to go yet - but that I only dropped the nut in carelessly, I’ve doing all my looks like that, and I have no idea if it’s the right height at that end. . What I’m doing is I put in two frets, no glue, the first and the twelfth, the twelfth is where you measure your action, and the first is the one that you set the height of the nut to only just clear, so now I have the nut very close to where it needs to be and so that’s my true angle to the saddle. . Now my action measurements at the twelfth will be better. . It still looks a little back bowed and wants another 32nd off measured at the twelfth. . I guess I’ll stop talking about letting it settle for a day - taking a break. . /48 . #Luthier #Guitar #Framus12StringProject

Busy few days, a few things to tell. .

  1. Did all that, took more wood off the easy end, fretted it back up, lacquered the neck, especially the sides of the fretboard, and I stained and lacquered the bridge, which looked like rosewood but still a little out of place for being kind of blond. .
  2. My pick guard, LOL I had this idea, use some striped maple veneer for the top layer of a few, but when I stained it with the same stain that seemed good on the neck it went all dark, so I painted it black, but you could still see and feel the grain - but I aimed the grain across my strum and it sounded like someone was playing the maracas or something, some percussion instrument. If I wasn't hitting the strings hard, my nails on the pick guard was louder! . So I put six thick coats of lacquer on it, got it shiny and a lot smoother. Not a structural matter if I want to keep going until it's as smooth as plastic later. But my can of lacquer is getting pretty light. .
  3. Certainly not right yet, but it passed a test it didn't pass before, frets 0 - 5 all play different notes, on all twelve strings. Hasn't been strung up for a day this time yet and it's still very new, that could still change. . But I think that means it's just the fret tops now, wood is good, maybe. 🤞 😬 . Try every fret soon, make a map for final (LOL) finishing. .
  4. Fretting, bloody fretting, I lose sleep before and after fretting about fretting. The handful of fret jobs I've done, I've tried to fit and finish them in place, on the guitar, and I generally destroy the edge of the wood trying to make them safe. I have a fret file for the top edge, but I can't somehow deal with the lower bit, the sharper bit, is it another tool I need? . But this time I had the (immediately) previous frets for length, I tried finishing the whole end of the fret first and then installing it. It does seem to soften the bottom of the fret, but I've made a bit of a mess, they don't draw a very straight line, and I haven't used my fret file at the tops yet. I think it will work out but still be a bit of a crooked line looking down the edges. . I just tore a whole set out, I want to get it all right before I do that part again, my hands hate that bit. .
  5. Oh - still inlay dots 5, Jeff 0. They're smooth on top but I missed centre pretty badly, don't ask me how. I cannot seem to stay conscious doing those things. 😜 🙄 🤮 🎶 .
  6. Still not my favourite size and shape this neck, but I might be able to play it a bit at the easy end. . At some point I stopped thinking about whether I could use it and started trying to save that original neck. 💜 . /52 #Luthier #Guitar #Framus12StringProject

Well, shipping has been prompt, a little too prompt, I should have gone the longest, cheapest route. My fretwire has arrived. . After a lot of self destructive haggling with myself over when to start counting dates because the glue went in over most of a week, I have finally seen the proper and dare I say Aspie-logical proper date to count from and that’s obviously the day the last structural glue went in, and that was last Friday, so as much as I would like to add time for the first bits that went in I can’t and I’m not. . My glue has been curing for one week today, and I’ll count Fridays now. (and one week is definitely not long enough, and I was starting to tell myself it had been, “two, REALLY,” and wondering if two was enough - but I’m feeling much better now, as they say). . One week, three and a half to go, is how long I’m hoping to wait. But the weather will be a factor, if there’s another record heatwave, I won’t want to test it at forty-five degrees. I made exactly that mistake plus another brainfart and broke the Revenant’s original neck, I forget which summer that was, ‘21, ‘22 maybe. . Patience. 🥹💜 . /42 #Luthier #Guitar #Framus12StringProject

bah, the tuners still too hard to turn. I have one idea. I think the new wheels are too big or the old peg holes are too close to the handle gear, and I think I can try opening the peg holes by a /32” to increase that distance a bit. . The tuners are giving me fits. I wish I was surer that the existing ones were old and stiff before I put the big ferrules on, but they must have been or I’d have noticed the nasty change immediately. And they’re clearly old, despite being very clean. . First I took them apart and oiled it all, didn’t help. . then I tried more than once to find a combination of wheels and pegs from my spare parts supply, to no avail. . Then I gave up and ordered the expensive new ones. . They don’t fit, at least not on this particular guitar. So I tried to use the new wheels and pegs in the old strips, and I was able to put that together, but it’s not a good fit, they’re still stiff and horrible. . Tomorrow, we drill out one hole, see if it helps, and all of them if it does. . I assume, as I usually do, that if I ever get it working I’ll be the only idiot who ever did, that a normal person would let these things die. 😠🙄 . It’s going to be very satisfying, though. . /64 . #Luthier #Guitar #Framus12StringProject

Ah, I feel like I should have known. The new Framus Vintage tuners seem like Chinese crap and they don’t fit, the strip js shorter, the spread is too short for my actual vintage Framus guitar with no ferrules at all. . I’ve taken the new pegs and wheels off the new strips and put them on the old ones, we’ll see how that works. You can’t change the handles on the old strips, but that side of the gear doesn’t look worn, steel vs brass, I guess. Plus the old handles are bigger and look more original. . They don’t seem to have been the originals, though, there’s a different set of old screw holes under those strips. - EDIT TO ADD: - wrong! Upon closer inspection, those aren’t screw holes, just the indentations from the rivets that hold the old tuning strips together. . Now I do think these were the first set. 👍 Original look, new gears, sounds perfect, except the fit isn’t quite. I think the peg holes in the old strips want to be a little bigger for the new pegs, the pegs are standing up at other than perpendicular, leaning towards the guitar a bit. Thinking about it, but it’s a huge PITA, and probably impossible without damaging the handle gears. . I’m going to see if they work alright this way, fingers crossed. . Still working on the repair, going to go after the rest of the crack, all the way around, and it might be too hot out for lacquering when that’s done. . This might keep me busy all summer after all. 💜 . /63 . #Luthier #Guitar #Framus12StringProject

I want this guitar to be better than I think I can make it on my best day. . I may be passing it along, I couldn’t seem to get it small enough for my tiny hands, and those are the spots that can’t look homemade. . You said that name and Vancouver and I got a memory. Not that I knew anyone’s name, but when I was in my early teens I used to dream at a little guitar shop on Commercial, at maybe 10th. avenue. Early 70s. @GuitarSith@fosstodon.org . Yeah, the saddle is a bit of a mess too, functional but non-pretty. . These are my used parts. I think I would have gotten away with the nut if I had hit my marks the first time, I started by filling that nut’s slots with a putty made from bone dust and superglue and they were factory, thin slots. . But once I went in making big new slots, I only had one chance and I was flippant about it. I only saw after that it would have been good forever if I had got it right. . But now I have my excuse to farm it out, I guess. 🤨 . I mean, I don’t have the tools. I cut every slot with my fret saw. 🫣🙄

Having said that, I’m still having trouble making the 12 string sing like I know it can, so I’m going to unstring it and start the changes. . First, action isn’t low enough, and more so on the treble side. I swear, I can’t see the high E string even with my readers on against all of them, I can’t tell or set it right by looking at that side - but I can sure feel it, and hear it. I can’t hold a bard chord down, and I can recognize this fault by simply grabbing it to pick it up by the neck, feels sharp and unsexy in my hand. . Not allowing myself to touch the torsion rod yet, so that will mean lowering the saddle. . And while I’m at it, I’ve found another nut that I can McGyver (the one I replaced on the 00-15 earlier this year), and I’m going to turn this 12 string around, bass strings on top. I think that’s better for me, I’m weak, I don’t hit it hard enough to get them equally and if I only hit one it ought to be the bass one. . I think I can change the existing saddle, like fill my notches and cut new ones. I’ve ordered new blanks for both ends, but I’ve made a mess of this used nut already, I’m going to let someone with the right tools do those for me eventually, when I’m sure it’s worth the expense. This is all just to try to get it playable and configured right on the cheap first. The tuners might still be a week away. 🎶💜🎸 . /57 . #Luthier #Guitar #Framus12StringProject

For the record, there are a few buzzes at the tenth fret and upwards, and I did notice a bit late that some frets still had a bit of a peak in the middle, I guess I didn’t get them all the way down. . I’ll deal with that, but I need a few things for the final fret work, some sandpaper between the 220 and the 1500 buffing stuff, some 600, plus I’m refreshing the edges of my buk shi fret file first. . It might still settle some while I get those tasks done, but that could be quick, another day or two. I think I’ll be back doing that before the tuners get here. . Oh yeah, I’m buying the tuners from Framus. Plus bone blanks for the nut and saddle. I think this was a great find and it deserves not to be left with any big deficiencies. . /54 #Luthier #Guitar #Framus12StringProject

since my burnout and divorce and a lot of self discovery - like finally facing the fact of my KFC spork sized hands - I ‘ve been dreaming of and sporadically searching for a deal on a real, old, proper wood guitar that had been let go to end of life, that I could somehow fit with a skinny neck for myself. I’m from Vancouver, I was thinking about American legacy brands, Martin, Gibson. . But in ten years I haven’t seen such a creature, they don’t let those ones die here, they get reset and restored. . Apparently the luthier industry pays less attention to foreign brands, the euro brand I happened to to fixate on for those skinny laminate Texan necks, Framus, I’ve found two of those so far, and only one Martin off-brand one - a Vega from Japan, not sure, maybe that’s the same as a Takamine - in these ten years. . I hope it’s a model issue and not a brand issue, but the Vega was better than the Revenant, had the big Martin sound. . But the new one, this 12 string, it is as close to the ultimare barn find dream as I’ve gotten yet, I think. The price of an American big brand proper twelve string from the ‘60s or ‘70s on Reverb, well, they start at two or three thousand and of course the Martins only go up from there. Not sure if I saw any Gibsons at all. . I fear it’s too good not to buy the tuners and a proper bone nut and a properly cut saddle, and that’s what, $300 if I carve the bone bits myself, so maybe it will have been $1,000 all in. . It’s been tuned up once a day since the evening before last, the plan is to wait until it settles, stays in tune overnight, and then start testing for buzzes and whatnot, try to finish the setup. 💜🎶 . /53 #Luthier #Guitar #Framus12StringProject

So I sort of ignored the fretboard from the fourth fret down (about the break, not wanting to weaken that part of the neck) and sure enough, it doesn’t flex there at all, the relief doesn’t begin until the fourth fret now. . It’s more than I want to fix just at the fret level, so I decided to remove the frets from the seventh down and re-plane the wood, and then Bardmoss helped me realize I’d forgotten the inlays, so now they’re all coming off again. 😬🫣🙄 . A few steps forward, and a big one backwards. . But I never have done the inlays right, sanded properly to grade with the wood. Kind of looking forward to getting that right once. . /51 #Luthier #Guitar #Framus12StringProject

@bardmoss@autistics.life . yeah I think I'm into it around $800 plus labour. Solid wood, vintage, I think I might be able to say "restored," and not butchered and converted, this one, except it's been downsized. I think it would sell for more than that, or it would have before the the apocalypse economy arrived. . ah, no wonder it sucked, that one's supposed to be the fifth fret. last night I forgot and recorded it on the fourth. I'll get it right one of these years. 😬 😂 . just played Running on Empty, and that I liked it for, seemed to fill it up, kept it moving. Too many mistakes to post, but very nice in spots. 👍

@bardmoss@autistics.life . Ha! - because it doesn't work down there yet, the strings are laying on the second fret. . It's getting better, settling, I just played something capo'd on the second, you couldn't do that last night - I'm going to rip the first several frets out again, and take some more wood off there, get it right, but I'm having a day off and letting it settle. 💜 . Gathering my thoughts and girding my loins 😬

Overnight it sounds mostly in tune and it’s not bent forward, but I do wish it was even stiffer and staying backwards a little more. There’s not much room to work with there, it’s not going to get much smaller anymore. . But, for better or worse, the gonzo part is done, it will be tight, but no apparently fatal mistakes have been made yet. Intonation seems good, thank GAWD. 🥹😀 . Now it’s sort of proper luthiery, shaping that fretboard. Having attempted the gonzo bit twice before, I think I’m stuck with myself as the experienced hand for that, but I wish I had more experience than twice doing the normal part, I see a lot of slow trial end error and broken strings in my immediate future. . Then frets, then more of both. . First I have to figure out exactly where to remove wood and where to leave it alone. Do I take it all down evenly or do I only sand the thickest bits, where I left the old fretboard thick? - sorry, my brain is wired through my mouth, I only think out loud. Going to work through this here. . It’s sort of a conundrum, you take wood off the top, you’re placing your new surface back, from the guitar’s top towards its back - but you’re also weakening that spot, so the strings pull it further forward than before, it may end up being in the same place. I guess the second thing is more evident where it’s thinnest, at the headstock end, the first frets. . But it’s true of the whole length too. The action looks 3/16” low now, but it doesn’t need a whole 3/16” off, because it will all move forward a bit too, right? . There are reasons it’s a whole trade. 🧐💜 . If the end bends forward, that’s a quick way to get the required final shape, gets the strings up off the frets, but that’s where I’m ADDING wood, that’s where it’s broken and vulnerable, the last thing I want to do is plan to bend that forward. Ah, I think that settles it, I need to dig out the wood from the third fret up, like that, the rest of the way to the sound hole. . Lift them strings more gradually. . Still, it’s tight. I fear I’ll need to cheat, leave it less than new in terms of a nice high saddle and a slack truss rod before it’s done, just an intuition, maybe. . planning to let it settle for a day or two while I try to think about it more. . /46 #Luthier #Guitar #Framus12StringProject

@YakyuNightOwl@mastodon.world . I was in restraint mode and didn’t buy it, but there was what looked like a really old Norman dreadnaught at the Salvation Army a year or three ago here. Big, fat round neck on it, end of life, to me that means some age. . It was some private sale, staff or a friend of the staff, it wasn’t thrift store priced, they wanted $450 CDN. In aid of trying not to buy it, I did NOT strum it, afraid it would sound too good not to. 🥹💜🎶 . #Guitar

I suppose I’ve sort of explained my attitude, I’m taking it down to as small as I need it to be and it if breaks, I’ll eviscerate it and start the bolt on conversion. . I just feel I’m in a weird place about it all. I took the sides and the back of the neck off as far as I need to and as far as I dare. . Now I’ve installed the side dots, stained it, and I’m going out for a can of lacquer in a minute. I’ve finished this neck except for the setup and the frets, done my downsizing on it, I’m wokimg on a new logo and a new pick guard - and I have no idea if I’ve cured the end of life curve yet or made it worse. . I’m keeping busy, trying to let the glue cure as long as possible so I can’t tune it up to find out. I’ll either crash at the finish line or not, I guess. 🙄🥹💜 Ha - it’s still Schroedinger’s guitar . /37 #Luthier #Guitar #Framus12StringProject

I have four things to do every day, eat, resin, eat, and fibre . I am forever surprised how often three out of four ain’t bad, or a “day,” becomes thirty or forty hours . But four out of four today, FWIW . That’s one good thing, and I sang a song . . . ah, it rained some at last. Missed summer, but Autumn started with a little water. That’s #ThreeGoodThings , I guess 💜 #Disability #InvisibleDisability

So whatever happens, with either neck, tuners are a problem. . I haven’t made sure that the tuners are spaced in a non-standard or non North American standard way, but they are on the old Framus six string guitars, and I will. The wheels, the cogs are worn out and they are on all my old spares too, or it’s a different attachment from wheel to post, and modern wheels are too big, don’t fit between the tuning handle and the post. . I guess that answers the spacing question, doesn’t it, if one is smaller, six are smaller too. . Framus sells replacement sets, €124, I think it said, so $200 CDN plus shipping, I think that will probably be the only option other than just living with them stiff. I don’t ever want to pay that, but certainly not for Schrodinger’s guitar, I’ll wrestle with that cost if it’s going to work at all. . Bought the black paint, the pick guard will be cool. . /43 . #Luthier #Guitar #Framus12StringProject

@reverend@social.undeadnetwork.de . Yes, it’s been my whole life trying to get my thumb in the game, and I’m finally seeing the barest beginnings of it, I can almost play Folsom Prison Blues lately. . It’s pathetic, I clearly should do something else with my time and my brain, but honestly, what? I did better at my attempt to solve humanity’s problems, I think I have the gene for something like that, but where I can’t learn music, humanity can’t learn what’s wrong. . The music should have been the thing you learn and then do, and the philosophy was supposed to be impossible and therefore an endless task with no conclusion - but for me it’s been the other way around, I feel I’ve figured people out and the music I never will. 💜

@bardmoss@autistics.life . aw, geez, I just realized the problem, no inlay dots. 😳 They’re supposed to go on before the frets, but I was still thinking about shape, I forgot. They never look good if you try to get them in and sand them flush between the frets (don’t ask me how I know). . I think I have to tear them all out and do it again. . Painful. I’m an idiot. 😠

Hey, guess what I did. 😜 . It wouldn't even have been enough fretwire if I had ordered the little bit I did correctly and it was the same as the fretwire I already had on hand, but it isn't. . So I've ordered some more and not taken the express shipping, just airmail, it says one to four weeks, which puts my back to work date on it out of my hands, there won't be much sense hurrying to find out what it looks like under tension if I haven't got the materials to finish it anyway. Kind of perfect. 🙄 👍 . And the day it arrives I'll take it as a sign from God that it is time to GOOOOO 😀 . /40 . #Luthier #Guitar #Framus12StringProject

Unable to escape my fixed thoughts and the state of the world last evening, I almost tuned the thing up and started the work. . I’m trying to let the glue cure for a month, I almost snapped on Day Eight. 😳🥹 . because if it just breaks after a month the wait was pointless, I tell ya, dead or alive, this Schrodinger problem is pure angst. @reverend@social.undeadnetwork.de . ha ha, nah, I’ll ever reach that level. It was just something about the Turner picking, I thought that ragtime blues sound involved a lot more finger work with the left hand, I thought it meant always picking some extra seventh notes and stuff, but it’s mostly just the right hand, the picking, and your left is just making whole chords. . I thought there was fret hand stuff I didn’t know, but I know the chords. It’s just the Turner picking I don’t have and may never. I don’t really have the gene for it. . But I think now maybe it’s not quite as far out of reach as I thought. 💜

@Tom_frog@mastodon.social . yeah, I didn’t see a solution there. Again, the vintage Framus tuner spacing is different, they’re closer together. I wanted to buy two sets of basic Grover’s but no individual ones will fit.
