@mjk@hachyderm.io > I would have made fewer changes to a human PR, because I'm sensitive to completely ripping up someone's work. I too find that's a huge difference from the way I approach regular PRs. If someone comes with a LLM-assisted PR and there's anything in it that makes my life harder as a reviewer or maintainer, I respond without regard for churn or seemingly gratuitous changes. These things don't have feelings or memory.

@bradlarsen@infosec.exchange Back in the dark ages, linked list of arrays were a classic way to implement file buffers in editors, and there were two kinds of people: some who thought we should use fancier data structures with better asymptotics, and others who decreed long lines were user error.

@TomF@mastodon.gamedev.place @sol_hsa@mastodon.gamedev.place @ocornut@mastodon.gamedev.place you can delete unit tests when they become irrelevant. unless i have clear properties, I see them more as automatically invalidated documentation of what happens for a small set of inputs.

@gvwilson@mastodon.social duckdb's python api might work, if you're looking for polars-like DB querying? But also, write lock around rename(2) overwrites of a tiny parquet file sounds reasonable to me!

@joe@f.duriansoftware.com @zwarich@hachyderm.io i while back, i sketched multi-shot continuations in SPMD C with just logging + replaying nondeterministic choices :/ [because sometimes that's easier than serialising closures]

@csgordon yeah… i definitely type faster than LLMs spit out tokens. but i can only use one keyboard at a time. FWIW, my kid's school is trying to teach them touch typing… on ipads.

@pervognsen can't be too far… i've already had to do that when clang cleverly detected that my inline asm wasn't supported by the -march on the build line… sometimes I just don't want *the compiler* to use fancy stuff, even though it's available.

@demofox@mastodon.gamedev.place like enforce a specific (low) fps instead of just vsync. I'm also looking at the missing key input on linux

@zwol@masto.hackers.town @Loosf@yiff.life they studied a cohort of junior programmers with not necessarily a lot of python exposure (at least once a week), and no prior exposure to a complex library (Trio).

@csgordon@types.pl @regehr@mastodon.social @krismicinski@types.pl From here (with an in-house design team), it feels like fragmentation is treated as feature… and you wouldn't be surprised by my evaluation of the SIMD extensions.

Trolled by CVXPY again. how do you have an IPM that takes thousands of iteration on ~lasso? First order convergence at second order computational overhead…
