@emily_s@mastodon.me.uk @Ambraven@social.mochi.academy there’s .cloned() on Option which will make this slightly shorter still.

@drakulix @q66 100% applies to the “power user” take of immutable or atomic linux systems, imho. “Oh but I can’t ‘sudo yum install’ anymore!” No, and that’s good! The clearer separation of the OS from software repositories is good! It’s also good to abandon the idea of mutating a live system in-place. That’s was never great. Push left!

My friend used to say “IoT, the ‘S’ stands for security”. What do we say about AI?

@cassidy I liked https://openscad.org/community.html when I needed to make a contribution there. It’s not a very glamorous page, but full of links and resources for different ways to get involved. Told me exactly what I needed to know, quickly.

@profoundlynerdy@bitbang.social I’ve been happy on “lemmy.ml”. There’s a page here that has some info about different instances: https://join-lemmy.org/instances

@SNThrailkill oh that’s nice! :) I run a bootable container on bare metal currently - and love the way it works. Something I’d like to figure out is how to nest another bootable container as a VM within this. I know how to set it up manually using virsh, virt manager, or cockpit UI.. but I’d like to explore how to define the VM in the host bootable container image.

@SNThrailkill riiight.! Sounds plausible to me too, but I’ve not invested in figuring it out yet. The VM can set itself up too on first boot with the usual ignition magic. _Side quest unlocked!_

@sashin@veganism.social If you make it a “.desktop” file you can set the icon there. You can still launch via the terminal and the icon should be associated correctly. You may need to get the StartupWMClass correct for that to work.

On Tuesday I felt pain in my leg and by Wednesday it had worsened so I took myself to hospital. They found DVT (deep vein thrombosis).

I don’t fall into any of the typical risk groups for DVT, so tests were carried out to try and determine a cause. I’m glad to say all came back clear and they believe my DVT is simple bad luck.

I’m already starting to feel better with the treatment I’ve been given but I’ve been told to expect recovery to be slow.

@brendangregg@aus.social it’s all fine and good it being enabled by distros.. but I’d love to see it enabled by default in the compilers too. GCC if I’m not mistaken will omit frame pointers from “-O1” up, meaning that so much non-distro software will still lack them unless the maintainer explicitly turned them back on.

@nlnetlabs @Codeberg devil’s advocate, but do you need distro native packages? Can you publish instead in a distro agnostic form? Maybe an OCI image, flatpak, or Brew package..

@rogerallen@mstdn.social hi! I’m quite enjoying @tweegeemee@genart.social - but I wonder if you have something that posts less frequently..? Maybe just once a day with the most popular image from that day.. something that doesn’t fill up my timeline so fast! :D

@SNThrailkill I think a VM works well. Then you can use the official “all in one” docker setup, the official VM image, or use the Ubuntu snap. Treat the VM as the appliance and back it up however you like. But don’t look inside! See also Home Assistant. :D

@bitflipped maybe try Bluefin? It got a mention in the recent Fedora 44 Atomic update post: “As always, I heavily recommend checking them out, especially if you feel like some things are missing from the Fedora Atomic Desktops and you depend on them (NVIDIA drivers, extra media codec, out of tree kernel drivers, etc.).” https://fedoramagazine.org/whats-new-fedora-atomic-desktops-in-fedora-linux-44/ https://projectbluefin.io/#Bluefin #UniversalBlue

@cassidy@mastodon.blaede.family 100x agree. I’ve never gotten on with the famous nubbin and would much prefer their trackpad to be bigger and better. I ordered the ThinkPad X9-14 just hours ago.
