He/they ("he" pretty much only because I sadly lack the courage of giving up the safety that passing as cis-male brings).
Mentally ill, maybe some sort of neurodiverse (clinical tests show me right at the edge of not quite, so???)
Opposed to bigotry due to an intersectional, humanist worldview (naturally, I am also afraid of exclusion if I diverge too far from the norms of the groups/society I live in, I hope to be better but it's never been really put to the test so far)

@wendythedruid@thistlenfern.org For added context: her family lives in Switzerland where her wife (a movie producer, I think) is lobbying for continued rights for homosexual couples. So Weidel can quite easily not care about the policies of the AfD, as they most likely won't impact her personally.

@benroyce I feel that so much, I also like to always bring up, whenever somebody here in Germany gets nostalgic for the "good old times", that back then we had a wealth tax and train, postal, and telecommunication services were nationalized. Gets some prizeless looks 😁

@regendans@todon.eu @rcosta@archaeo.social @blogdiva@mastodon.social Also, Galileo might have gotten away with his book, if he hadn't put the literal Pope's literal arguments in favor of geocentrism into the mouth of a character literally called "idiot". That whole kerfuffle was just as much about Galileo as a person as about his science. (Also Giordano Bruno was not burned at the stake only because of his astronomy but also for denying the virgin birth and that Jesus was indeed the Messiah) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galileo_affair

@SteveRudolfi@mastodon.social Hi, patent attorney here, giving a sort of PSA I often drop when I stumble upon articles like this one. The way the system works, a very significant number of patents are not granted for things that any given company actually has, but rather for things that a company thinks that it might want to have in the future, and sometimes it's even just about having a bigger pile of patents to take into negotiations without any intentions of ever actually using the patented things.

@NicelyManifest@mastodon.social @KatyElphinstone@mas.to I believe that another aspect also comes from rules, norms, and concepts like justice being deeply linked to group dynamics and the like. Neurotypicals have an easier time recognizing when enforcing social norms might be detrimental to their relationships/group status and subsequently ignoring said norms.

@Catvalente Alternate interpretation: LLMs do not actually "make mistakes". Every time, they do exactly what they are supposed to do, without error. Problem is, what they are supposed to do is "hallucinating". Every single LLM output is a "hallucination". Sometimes, by random chance, the "hallucination" given matches objective reality, but that is not at all relevant for the LLM's function.

@bridgeenjoyer @benroyce @aho Then they might get caught cheating which might upset even the most apathetic centrist and some of the rubes supporting them enough, that they join protests/revolutions/anything. If people don't vote, they just win by default, allowing them to keep up an illusion that everything is working as intended and anybody who'd rather look away than get involved can do so without experiencing even the tiniest bit of discomfort.

@greene This gave me another chilling thought. There is a significant overlap between people spreading disinformation about vaccines/modern medicine and trying to exert pressure on women to have more children due to "below-replacement" birth rates. If we bring child mortality back up to 50% or whatever, even more children would have to be born to keep population levels up, meaning even more opportunity to scold people for not having enough of them.

@poleguy @Catvalente I'll concede your point but only because "sometimes" and "random chance" are very badly defined terms that are not very intuitively understood by humans (myself included). To wit: only because something is statistically well tuned to give good results most of the time does not mean that the results are not inherently random. "random" != "everything has the same probability"

@bridgeenjoyer @benroyce @aho Well now you've convinced me, everything is indeed hopeless. Guess I'll just die then? 🤷 I hope at least that course of action gets your seal of approval 🙄 Ok, that was too harsh. I assume you mean well, but come on. Morale is important in any fight, especially prolonged ones. So, please cultivate a habit of saying things that instill hope instead of despair, even if you don't feel it yourself. And if you can't do that, you would be helping more by staying silent.

@admin @benroyce @bridgeenjoyer @aho Then that is what they should have to do. Every single act of escalation on their part comes with the chance of turning people from "this seems bad but I'm not gonna risk my neck because of it" to "this is completely unacceptable and I'm gonna do something about it".

@bridgeenjoyer This one is just for you as Ben really doesn't like to hear it: Please stop fighting with people who are already motivated to do "something", even if you don't approve of said "something". Your time would be better spent looking for some "apolitical normies" sitting on the sidelines and convincing them to "join the fight". Popular uprisings need numbers, then even suboptimal strategies can lead to success. So getting numbers up is paramount compared to discussing strategy. 👍

The rising stupidity of the world (as seen below) kind of fits into theories of strain and anomy and the like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strain_theory_(sociology)

As many people still adhere to social goals (e.g. wealth) but are less and less able to achieve them through approved means (e.g. hard work), we would expect to see a rise both in frequency and intensity of illegitimate means of achieving said goals (e.g. gambling, fraud, get-rich-quick schemes etc.)
