@arstechnica Perhaps if they didn’t scape the ocean floor, virtually dredging the whole area, in their “fishing” efforts, wrecking the whole environment down there, it wouldn’t happen.
Let’s hope someone, somewhere is keeping a record of where these nautical minefields are.

@ketan It probably doesn't hurt that the Power Companies are buying rooftop solar at one third the price they sell it at retail. The standing costs, poles and wires etc, are billed to the consumer separately.

Effectively, the US is a tax haven. The states know this.

@petergleick Don't fixate on the fuels and lubricants. Think of the Indian farmers who will have no fertilizers this planting season. The shortages of pharmaceuticals, the lack of medical plastics (teeth, hip replacements etc), the industrial feedstocks, all of which are subsidized by the automotive industry's need for fuels and lubricants.
My Zinnias are under attack from mildew.
So in come the Fungus-Eating Ladybirds.

That's the Melbourne I remember. Not the '50s though; the 1960 FB Holden outside Damman's is the tell. I learned to drive in a brand-new FB in November 1960.
I wonder if those angled arrows are a precursor for the "Hook Turn".

@BrentToderian@mastodon.online The hardest part of this idea is getting people to drive at that speed. They certainly don’t obey the speed limits here despite automated speed cameras etc. When my city had a population of around 3 million there was a slogan, “let’s declare war on 1034”, that being the road toll. Now we are some 5 million and our road toll is around 300. Still not zero. But I think Finns are probably more socially-minded than our lot.

@adwright@mastodon.social I really do believe that Trump has very little agency in what what he does. There are shrewder minds than his at work. A man like Donald probably has smoking guns going back decades and the lure of limitless power (temporarily) and money to keep him on task.
