RE: @knoppix95@mastodon.social

If you don’t like what Google is doing, if you don’t like the political influence they’re wielding, then the most effective thing you can do is #degoogle your life. Every bit of data Google has about you and ever ad you see that is sold by Google has real value to them that adds up to some big numbers. Keep those dollars away from Google!

Use a better search engine (Kagi)
Use a better browser (Waterfox or librewolf)
Use a more private email service (tuta or proton)

In the tradition of opening every sporting event in the USA with the national anthem, I propose that every live music event (regardless of genre or size) starts with a cover of War Pigs, until the military industrial complex is completely dismantled.

RE: @light_bulbs@mastodon.green

I want negative feedback first. It’s how I analyze actions and decisions to improve them. Positive feedback just shows something is working as intended, so is less valuable. No feedback is like doing stuff blindfolded.

I think anyone that was an art major highly values critique from peers and those with more experience. It’s a good practice.

On April 1 I plan on putting my water bottle inside a brown paper bag to drink from it at work.

It’s kind of fun to have a job where I can alert a few people to a factual error I spotted and it ends up making Marantz correct something on their website for a $3,000 turntable.

IT at work forced MacOS 26 on our laptops.

Immediately I ran into stupid, needless annoyances… downgrades in every way… less than 20 seconds into getting by desktop window arrangement back in order.

Searching for specific settings in System Settings used to provide instant results that now show as no results for about 10 seconds until thing slowly start populating. Corners are more rounded. Some icons are now inexplicably mini icons within an icon placeholder. Apple lost the plot.

@river@takohs.cc @chu@climatejustice.social Maybe Mother’s Day is the day with the lowest crime because cops aren’t doing their job on that day. Yesterday I drove by what looked like a tailgate party in front of a house, maybe 2 dozen people milling around, having a good time. As we got closer, all the cars were police vehicles. Officers, in duty uniform, were all the people. Only one vehicle was in the jurisdiction of the party [our taxes were paying for]. Useless people. It was surreal.

@alisynthesis@io.waxandleather.com You can’t go wrong with a small Orange amp. Avoid the tiny battery powered amps. They’re pretty much all awful at clean sounds at any reasonable SPL (except the Yamaha THR series). My personal favorite small amps that can get loud(ish) and sound great clean are the Quilters. They are pretty convincing tube amp emulators, but still all analog/solid state. It sounds to me like you might be happiest with an Aviator Cub. Or pair the Superblock with block dock.

@alisynthesis@io.waxandleather.com The coolest thing about the Quilter superblock is that it’s basically a pedal sized amp head that sounds really good. It can power headphones and every cab from a 1x8 to a 4x12. And it slips into the front pocket of your guitar’s gig bag.

@alisynthesis@io.waxandleather.com I’d call the THR an end table amp, not a busking or gigging amp. The quilters will be inordinately better for group practices, gigs, busking, etc.

@light_bulbs@mastodon.green Con: you essentially have two electric motors: one for the drive and one as a generator. Each would have its own gear set (internally). Duplication is inefficient use of resources Pro: it could allow creative positioning of things and unique designs that just wouldn’t be feasible with a chain drive. I could see this being useful in velomobile and human powered cargo delivery vehicles. Pro: you can keep pedaling while stopped
