New grad students in the #Boston area, you can save significant money on groceries, by walking to #MarketBasket and #TraderJoes.
For example, tomatoes today were $1.91/lb. at TJ, vs. 2.99/lb. at WFM (if they have conventional that day; or 3.99/lb. organic).
Swiss Miss is 2.59 at MB, but 3.99 at Target.
Premium olive oil at MB cost about half what the same SKU cost at Broadway Marketplace.
Dream rice milk large size at MB cost the same as small at WFM.
Etc.

@TrueNorthSpice@mastodon.world @LilPecan@mastodon.social Thanks! A variation on this just worked for me.
For me, on Firefox with Web app, there's a race condition, if you can get it to show "Add " for a fraction of a second, and hit Enter.
For example, if I type hashtag and "SomervilleMA", then the completions menu will show an "Add SomervilleMA", so hit Enter very rapidly after the last letter. Worked.
Similarly, I was able to get "AirQuality" by typing that, then"2", rapid Backspace and Enter.

@LilPecan@mastodon.social I recently bumped into this while setting the Featured Tags for my profile, using the Web app.
I can get "CambridgeMA" into my Featured Tags, but not "SomervilleMA" (only "somervillema").

@cR0w@infosec.exchange I used this fabulous technology at home for a few years.
3 Rite-in-the-Rain pocket notebooks. (2 notebooks at home, 1 off-site, rotated periodically.) Fisher Space Pen.
(Was 3 notebooks, rather than 2, so that the off-site one could be rotated as a quick atomic swap, without opening it there.)
Were I to do it again, I'd do it only for higher-security secrets that can't just be email-replaced easily. Every recurring manual task adds up, like every ounce in a hiker's backpack.

@ParadeGrotesque@mastodon.sdf.org Mr. Rogers showed us that long ago. Philosophy 101 is the troublemaker here. 😀

@researchbuzz@researchbuzz.masto.host One way that governments and nonprofits need to to get more Internet-savvy is to understand and embrace open standards/platforms.
They already understand and embrace many professional standards that are recognized in their field, but this one was somehow missed.
They think that they are being digital-savvy by mimicking commercial social media managers, but those have very different priorities.
Make proprietary social media *secondary*, and be selective about which.

@matthiasott This is one of the reasons that the "installed" parts of Claude on my laptop run only within a VM sandbox, and are generally distrusted.

Following PGN's Risks list, at the start of my career, nudged me to think more about topics like HCI, societal context, security, system correctness, and responsibility.
Going back to when the Internet was a much smaller place, his work must have been a positive direct influence on many of us.
