The eldest has just had his insulin pump delivered.

No idea what it would end up costing under Reform but under the NHS he just had three and a half grand of medical tech dropped off at the door for nothing.

Oh and don't forget his insulin is free and he'll never, ever have to pay a prescription charge for any medication.

It looks like an expensive vape. A very expensive vape.

Fuck Reform.

This was posted in a LinkedIn group I'm apparently a member of.

Apparently you're not meant to think losing millionaires is a good thing?

These people aren't leaving the country their accountant is moving them abroad for several months a year to avoid tax because loopholes exist.

Hotblack Desiato spent a year dead for tax purposes.

RE: https://rbfirehose.com/2026/07/23/techspot-a-new-coding-contest-challenges-developers-to-fit-an-entire-game-onto-a-1-44mb-floppy-disk/

That's 1.44Mb not 1.44kb which would be a challenge ;)

It's strange how challenges shift over time isn't it? An entire HD floppy would fit dozens of my early games and I used to work with a chap who got his first job in the industry after winning a competition (top prize a 16kb Spectrum!) with a game for the unexpanded 1kb ZX81 as a 16 year old.

It's pretty amazing what you can fit on a floppy these days. The demoscene has created some awesome compression stuff.

Should be worth a watch.

@RickiTarr I'm currently writing something on slow hiking that includes stuff about pain. It's not until you write about your own chronic pain you remember how disabling it is. :( I'm trying to learn to live more slowly and listen to my body more. I know I've made my issues worse by being wilfully ignorant of my own needs and I can't emphasise enough how listening to your body is the key.

I drove past the factory in question a couple of hours ago. It's still there, they are building a solar farm next door, I wonder if the company involved in that will put a sign up saying they aren't part of the military industrial complex on the fences :)

Nice to see juries in this country are finally getting the message that the courts might not be telling them the entire truth and they still have the right to obey their conscience.

I had my diabetic eye test this morning (which requires drops) and walked to the hospital down the canal, I hopped over the little brick bridge you can see from the old iron bridge in the pictures to the hospital and afterwards I hopped back over to grab vitamins and stuff from Bentley Bridge before walking back from the Cosmo end, crossing the iron bridge in the pictures and walking home. Hardly able to see the wildlife with my blurred vision :)

@Wintergr33n @RickiTarr I was taken off Naproxen when I needed to go onto another med that might have complications with it. They gave me Tramadol which worked, obviously, but then the government decided I couldn't be trusted with that opiate so they gave me another opiate in the form of Co-codamol. The odd thing is Tramadol did nothing to me other than kill pain but I get the same rush I did with morphine off codeine so they gave me an opiate I feel is more addictive to me. Politics.

@christineburns I spotted a pair of them just inside a factory/office property last week. They are on the private property on either side of the drive but entirely positioned to film the road. I wonder if they have to be situated in pairs for some reason.

@alxsim@ecoevo.social spot on. I'm not against entirely automatic accounts but it would be best if they congregated on instances set up to cater for them with clear rules on their use. They shouldn't be on mixed servers in general. As for AI posts that's entirely down to the user/instance and I think the clear labelling note is perfect for this instance. Thank you for your hard work :)

@Maker_of_Things @Susan60 on the other hand we have my mother in law who is housebound and refuses to acknowledge she needs more care than can be provided in her home and would do anything to live with us in a home that is unable to be adapted to her needs. My partner is the full-time carer of our autistic children (the youngest has more care needs than me and the big 'un) so is unable to take on more even if she wanted to.

@Maker_of_Things @Susan60 although we would have taken in one of my folks if they had needed it. So they did absolutely the right thing in telling us not to take that step. They have been there for everyone in the family all my life and currently visit my auntie daily to help with her needs in their 70s. We'd have probably done the same for her Dad (who passed away almost 15 years ago now) who did everything he could for the extended family as well. Sounds harsh I know :(

@Kimberley Lichfield used to have some good ones but I haven't been there for about five years. Most of them were along Market Street from by old market square and Samuel Johnson's house (which is well signposted). A few are expensive (there is an Oxfam bookshop which is great but not for bargain hunters) but when I last went there were still a few bargains to be had. All the old market towns and small cities in the midlands used to be good though.

@Susan60 @Maker_of_Things yup, multigenerational living was common until fairly recently which makes it so weird our media is obsessed with young folks staying home longer or starting their families in the family home. It's just been a blip, of less than 100 years in working communities, that we didn't stay in one of the family homes after marriage and draw retired parents back into our home when they can't support a home of their own

@Susan60 @Maker_of_Things The thing that put my parents off was my Dad saw how much Mom had to do to care for his Dad when her own parents had died years before and they didn't want me, in particular, to put my partner through the same thing They know I'm soft when it comes to that sort of thing but also really unorganised and it would be Jen who did everything. That's why they got my sister to be the one to stop me doing it by making her executor of all the legal stuff. They thought about it

@Susan60 @Maker_of_Things I actually offered to move in with my granddad after he had his stroke. I'd just got a flat around the corner from his house and expected to pop around almost every day as I had for the previous five years when I moved in. The family, quite rightly, pointed out that it would be wrong for me at 21 to give up my life to live with an old geezer as his carer just because I love him. I couldn't see past the love.

@trib Spot on. It doesn't matter how many people arrive in each influx the ones who stick around want pre-2010 Twitter as a minimum standard and will moderate their behaviour to the norms of people they engage with completely friction free. This is what social media is when it's created and maintained by the society and not the media barons or tech bro's :)

@cy @Susan60 @Maker_of_Things yeah, the way nursing homes are paid for in the UK the poorer you are the more likely you are to be able to afford one. The hardest hit are working people who bought a home in the 70's or 80's and have a lot of equity in it but that is the majority or entirety of the estate they want to pass onto their children. We can't afford to inherit the MIL's home as it would mean losing our council home for a place too small for the family :)
