I’m at the mushroom class. Just chose my log. It’s exciting! I’m singing the Ren and Stimpy log song in my head.😆
Chicken people: what is your routine for your chickies? When do you feed etc? I’m getting my chickens next weekend and just trying to figure out a few things. Also do they get one feed a day or one morning and evening?
Got the chickies today, two speckled Sussex (2 months) and two Buff Orpingtons (3 months) They’re sweet girls so far and they seem pretty happy exploring their new home.
Tonight we put them in bed and I felt a bit bad as it’s cold and rainy. I figured they’d be tucked in the coop in the straw nice and cozy. I went out and they were all in a mosh pile in the sheltered outside bottom area of the coop.
@ahermitforhire@pagan.plus lifted them back into the inside area. I had a peek through the window to see how they’re doing and they’re all illuminated by my neighbors security light and pecking at their own shadows. So it is what it is… At least they’ll be warmer. Fingers crossed the get tired soon. I did get this photo which honest to God deserves to be in an art gallery. 🤣
Think I’m going to be making curtains or finding a NASA deflector for that light. :ablobwhatisgoingon: 
As an update to my bag of mushrooms that I’m trying to grow, I thought things weren’t really going anywhere and today found this little clump of baby oyster mushrooms!! I’m excited and grossed out at the same time. The white stuff is Mycelium. Those bumps are potential fruiting spots. Honestly growing mushrooms is so freaky. I don’t know how the first person ever decided to eat mushrooms, they must have been very hungry!
Also as another note there is this ongoing conversation between me and the bag.
Me: “Is this right? I don’t know what I’m doing.”
Mycelium (in the voice of V from Vendetta) “No, none of what you’ve done so far is right and yet none of it is wrong either. I think you’ll find though in the end that none of it matters, and besides I’ve taken care of everything for you.”
Me: Puts back bag on shelf and backs away whispering ‘I’m never growing mushrooms again.’
Brought some plant friends home after lunch today. One is a Boston Fern the other I can’t remember and the lady at the garden center took the price with the name. So if you can identify Ms stripe over here that would be great and very helpful! I want to say some type of philodendron but not 100% sure.
I need to take pictures for you of this place. It’s my favorite place to eat and the garden shop side has Victorian greenhouses and the potting sheds and plants are so dang perfect. There’s also a little black cat that will bless you with her presence.
The cafe currently is inside one of the greenhouses with tropical plants, palms, bamboo, flowering plants all over, a fish pond and elephant ears.
Anyway, an id of this little plant would be most appreciated!

@Cat_LeFey@pagan.plus Our neighborhood has a creek that winds through it. It’s underground mostly so you don’t see it much but it’s channeled on two of the streets and ducks like to hang out there. Found out that there’s a cave system underneath all that which is so cool! Wish I knew more about the cave. I think about it every time I go for a walk.

@Cat_LeFey@pagan.plus Oh that would be such a cool experience! We went on a lantern cave tour at Mammoth Cave and it was amazing. It’s several hours long and I can understand why people panic and get lost near the mouth of caves. I think most people (including me) are not used to being in proper darkness anymore.
The cave in our neighborhood is closed to the public because someone stole dynamite from a roadworks crew and hid it in the cave. That’s the legend anyway, also it’s at the back of an Elementary school so people were worried kids would wander off which is probably more likely.
Saw a muskrat in the creek today. I’ve got ‘Muskrat Love’ by Captain and Teneal going around my head now. I haven’t heard that so since I was really small.

The first time I encountered true darkness out in the country it was the most disorientating thing ever. Got out of the car could see the car but like nothing much else. A dog was barking and moving around but I couldn’t see it properly and you feel like you’re going to fall over.
It’s such a weird feeling.

@mnl@hachyderm.io @inthehands@hachyderm.io Yes!!! I used to run upstairs if a song I wanted was playing on the radio, just to grab a blank tape and hit record. Hated it when the song got faded early because of the news or worst still the DJ talked over the end. That said sometimes the DJs would say some cool thing at the start of the song and that would forever become a part of the tape.
