Yes, I ordered all 10 ridiculously expensive Star Trek movie remaster 4K Blu-rays. I need something fun to look forward to these times. I didn’t however import them from the US.

It costs an eye-watering 230 or so Euro to buy all 10 Star Trek movies on 4K Blu-ray in Germany 😵‍💫

So… Mozilla keeps using Mullvad VPN for Firefox and started posting on X again. I guess the Fediverse asked one too many inconvenient questions for Mozilla PR, so they ran back to their buddies on Elon’s fash site.

Mastodon 4.6 will support alt text for the profile photo and banner. Is this the first social platform that allows something like this? I’ve never seen alt text for profile photos and banners implemented anywhere else.

This is exactly the kind of dangerous OS-level UI hacking tool I would’ve installed back in the Windows XP/Vista/7 days.

Was it a good idea to install some dubious tool that replaces things inside the explorer.exe just to achieve some fancy theme? No, not at all.

Was it fun? Hell yes!

@Tamtam I have to admit I myself am also not really part of these “old-style” social networks (IRC, mailing lists, etc). But I think being on Mastodon as part of the Fediverse is already an incredibly big step towards keeping the open non-corporate web alive.

Replying to

@wbrowar@hachyderm.io Great article!

Regarding color pickers and extended color spaces:

There’s a colorspace attribute that’s supported in Safari (and Firefox Nightly).

It’s considered experimental right now, but since you stated you’re using Safari only anyways you might give it a try for the color settings admin section.

It’s 30 Euros cheaper to import the stuff from Amazon US, including shipping and import taxes. Kinda ridiculous. But 4K Blu-ray prices in Germany are out of control in general.

The C&O class M-1 locomotive is an impressive piece of overengineering because some exec really really wanted to keep burning coal instead of using diesel locomotives.

@beep@follow.ethanmarcotte.com While I never use LLMs for anything myself, I experienced some of these effects just by looking at the screen of someone doing “AI-assisted coding”. There’s no calm, the LLM is constantly in your face, screaming for attention. Pair programming with someone who is using an LLM is a nightmare for my brain. I have to actively look away from the screen when I want to think about something for a second or two.
