@VoltPaperScissors@chaos.social In Czechoslovakia, a similar metal ladybug toy has been manufactured in huge quantities since ~1960. Basically every family had at least one of those... (It's still manufactured today in Czechia.) See e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=af4_9iEsXbI (randomly found video)

@nextcloud@mastodon.xyz For a specific example, see @keddie@mastodon.pirati.cz and his story of attempts to introduce Mastodon to official Czech government channels: https://www.profant.eu/blog/stripky-z-vlady-1/ (sorry, Czech only)

@ujay68@mastodon.world Not really, no. But those make good jokes, tricky questions, and clickbait headlines, so it pretends it does. https://www.audubon.org/magazine/no-its-not-actually-murder-crows @stephanieburgis@wandering.shop

@leeloo With my first payment card (ca 2000), there was definitely no "absolute guarantee" you couldn't spend money you didn't have: merchants and ATMs were not 100% online, so you could pay more than you had and it would be discovered in some kind of nightly sync. (You'd owe the bank with a high rate.) I wouldn't be surprised if the corresponding terms would still be in the bank T&C. Even though practically, you hardly hit this today. (Maybe airplane onboard shopping?) @harrysintonen

@MiguelGuerreiro@ecoevo.social As this is not a personal recommendation, it might not be what you wanted. But maybe you'll find someone interesting in this #Wikidata query: https://w.wiki/HtJW (only ecologists, there is *a lot* more biologists: https://w.wiki/HtJZ)

@threatresearch@infosec.exchange I don't seem to have this there. (But I disabled personalized ads or recommendations or what it was.) Is there some incremental rollout, is it limited to some countries, etc.?
