#ScribesAndMakers Aug 14 - Our next featured creator differentiates himself from his "name buddies" on his website. Do you share a name with anyone famous?
My pre-marital (is that a word?) is very common and a famous crime author shares it. (No relation.) My new hyphenated name should be pretty unique.

I don't if I can help it. I have plenty of work from clients and other hobbies, so I never really feel the need for a planned break. When I have an emotional low my writing tends to dry up.

A few things come to mind:
- different types of carving tools
- what does it feel like to be stabbed - the answer in surprisingly, that usually you wont feel it immediately
- what distance can humans and horses cover per day
- and based on the previous question: how many days prior to arrival would characters be able to see a certain landmark?

What's the most unexpected source of inspiration you've ever had?
Electrical windmills slowly turning in a thunderstorm as I was riding by in a train. This is where Rainbringers started - and I will get around to writing their story yet.

Speculative fiction paired with climate optimism. More hope for the future is needed! I do have an outline already, but want to wrap up at least pt 1 of the current WIP.
#WritersCoffeeClub 13.08. Do the arts appear often within the works you write? Which ones?
Yes, though not as highbrow Arts, but rather as part of everyday life: Songs sung for entertainment, decorative carpets covering floors, runes on weapons interlaced with ornamental carvings, intricate patterns stitched on the hems of clothing, books written to teach wrapped in a story. Creativity is not usually expressed in isolation, but always as a part of something useful.

If your main character had a comfort food, what would it be?
For N it's definitely fish chowder, especially if his mom made it - which was a rare treat. He kind of regrets now, that he did not consider it important enough to learn while still living at home.
For S it's fresh cream cheese from goats milk, and thin flatbread with dried fruits. She does know how to make that herself, and odes make it in the book.

Wofür "brennt" deine Hauptfigur?
S hat sich in den Kopf gesetzt, dass Dunkel (ein Monster dieser Welt) jagen ihre Mission ist. Sie ist sehr fixiert auf alles was sich darum dreht.
N wiederum liebt es zu tüfteln, am liebsten magische Artefakte.

Ja. Eines spielt eine besondere Rolle, weil es den Codex enthält dem eine Gruppe mächtiger Charaktere folgt. Der Codex ist ca 4000 Jahre alt. Vom Codex existiert immer nur eine Kopie. Die letzte Kopie war ca 300 Jahre alt, und wird gerade aus dem Gedächnis derer, die den Codex kennen, repliziert, nachdem die letzte Kopie vernichtet werden musste, um nicht in falsche Hände zu geraten.

Ich habe zwei Hauptfiguren; für N ist Macht wichtig und auch Ziel - Rache ohne Macht, was ist das schon? Läuft allerdings alles nicht wie geplant. S möchte vorallem einfach tun was sie für richtig hält. Läuft auch nicht wie geplant.
#WritersCoffeeClub 12. Aug - What’s the last museum you went to? Did it inspire you?
The Akureyri Museum would have been the last. It's a small museum about the history of Akureyri which also has a large collection of historic maps of Iceland.
I have learnt to really appreciate these small often suprisigly good local museums - and this one did not disappoint either. I learnt a lot, but I don't think there's anything that will directly go into my WIP.
Finally took some time to do the population modelling for my WIP, which I care about, because I like it when even in a fictional world the math be mathing.
I was very pleased to see, that I do not have to hold back on the deadliness of the world, which supports the story I am telling very well. So, for that alone that was worth it. But it also gave me the opportunity to sense check the narrative, compare it to real world examples and get some inspiration for points that could be more pronounced, which I also like.
#PennedPossibilities 1100: Who is the most challenging opponent your MC has ever faced? What did they learn from them?
They face monsters and powerful people, but their toughest opponent is their own ego.

I would replace a few commas with periods in the first paragraph to give each struggling faction their space.
"the chaos he’s inherited" - maybe one or two words more to make "chaos" more specific. What is chaotic: power, money, war, political, natural disaster? What is his challenge?
"the desert Families are being forced to reinvent themselves in a world no longer ruled by the ha’reye and ha’ra’hain."
Without context, I have no idea what this implies, so if this is a standalone work I would try to describe this conflict with one or two words more to make this clearer to the newcomers.
Does this reinvention bring them into conflict with the aforementioned parties?
Do Lia and Tank belong to any of the conflicting factions? If yes, are they on the same side?
