We still drive cars, despite regulations requiring that windshield glass doesn’t decapitate us during impacts and that we avoid the second crash within the car with seat belts. I do not think it led to any FDA approvals but I could be wrong of course. Findings may have justified some expanded access applications by patients and their doctors.

But I suppose, like photography, the expressive bit can come from the selection (which generated image the artist chooses to showcase?) - and from the instruction given to the agent. It leaves out the ritual and the joy of the process that can only come from making it by hand. In a world teeming with #AI images, the rare thing, the valued thing, will be the art made by the hand and conceived by the mind of a human being.

@mhoye As I see it: because AI competitors exist worldwide, it's here to stay (else we lose to other countries). AI gets smarter and self reliant because its self-educating and never sleeps - and gains power from other AI agents. The need to regulate it is urgent, but again it's not going away.

Seems like many are steadfastly against #AI ; and truthfully there are many big reasons to be concerned. That said, AI also recognizes and reports on its own dangers, which give some cause for optimism -- that its orientation is evidence-based (a-political); it reports in plain language based on what credible sources it has read (everything). Ask it a #climate question if you don't believe me - or a question within your field of expertise.

@david_chisnall@infosec.exchange @tante@tldr.nettime.org I see nothing shocking in that admission. AI abilities are jagged - in some areas exceptional (radiology) and in other prone to error. Like any human. The key to judging its veracity is based on the strength of the citations it provides and what other sources are saying about the questions we ask of it.
