The maker tools are unproductive on purpose. Nobody expects your Arduino project to ship to customers. Nobody expects your homebrew computer to compete with IBM.
The whole point is that you have the permission to fuck around, and the finding-out happened gradually, through play, over years.
This is where the old Silicon Valley adage comes from: “What smart people do on the weekends, everyone else will do during the week in ten years.”
Vibe coding broke this pattern.

Open internet is replaced by consumption platforms, whose business model requires passive engagement. A user who spends X hours going down a tech rabbit hole, breaking things in a terminal is worth less to them than a user who watches X hours of content. They don’t ban tech material. They algorithmically deprioritize anything that demands active engagement and reward passive consumption.
This culture treats passive consumption as the default relationship with technology. https://fireborn.mataroa.blog/blog/the-slow-death-of-the-power-user/
#Cardputer ADV has a nice SSH client with many terminal capabilities, although the `screen` utility seems to be glitching at times during screen redraw. But irssi works just fine.
My daughter (2nd grade) has learned to count in the binary system: 1, 10, 11, 100, 101 and so on. To encourage further experiments, I have deployed a new robot to our household: turn the potentiometer and control the integer that is converted to binary using five LEDs: https://gist.github.com/kareiva/34d5cf9fe0b235fd13751da3b06de173
100M crypto-backed big corp, what could go wrong here?
Had a blast today while running around an (functional) airstrip in Moletai, Lithuania and watching satellite prototypes thrown from a drone and have their parashutes tested. Some shutes indeed failed to open, video here: https://youtu.be/9N2s79fCrks

#IRC server https://irc.linux.lt/ was upgraded to #UnrealIRCd version 6.2.3. In the meantime, test environment runs 6.2.4.
I maintain few stable releases as container images at https://quay.io/repository/kareiva/unrealircd?tab=tags
Those images have certbot support (for macvlan) and are based on #CentOS Stream (because it's always nice to see good security scan results)
Slowly dropping support for .deb based distros - if anyone would like, 'd be happy to undo this.
The end of political struggle against common sense and basic concepts of technology that makes the internet secure today.
I did not participate in it directly, but for sure I was in a dialogue with my EP member representative and it felt like I've contributed.
Now it's time to do more serious work to protect the minors.
I have opened the web based Microsoft Outlook for a little bit more advanced use. Where is the freaking Send/Receive button?
Susitvarkėme @hamlab@wtf.lt DNS konfigūraciją be jokių dokerių šmokerių ir nepadidinom SPOF skaičiaus tinkle. Jei norite lab'e kokį tech projektą priglausti, maloniai kviečiame :) https://www.patreon.com/posts/mikrotik-paldies-152409763
"The best argument for Rust in 2026 is not memory safety or performance. It is that AI writes better Rust than it writes C++."

This #Mastodon instance has been running for some time already and I find it amusing, how little maintenance it requires (given there are almost no users). So anyone is welcome to stir it up a little - by signing up :)
#irc https://irc.linux.lt LE certificate renewed without disruptions.
podman exec irc-ircd-1 kill -HUP 1;
Running a local #qwen3 model over #opencode produced the below vibe coding results - an Ansible reference. It's not much but it was honest work :) https://git.wtf.lt/simonas/ansible/src/branch/master/README.md
A cheat sheet leading to success with NVIDIA drivers on Fedora 43+ on a Precision 7560 Mobile Workstation:
Do not use official NVIDIA driver installer.
Do not blacklist noveau:
sudo grubby --args="rd.driver.blacklist='' modprobe.blacklist=''" --update-kernel=ALL
Do not install v4l2loopback/git from git:
sudo dkms uninstall v4l2loopback/git
Just install akmod-nvidia:
sudo dnf install akmod-nvidia xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-cuda
Wait 5 minutes until modprobe, reboot.
Here you go. Nice and easy.
How do I swap variables x and y without a temporary variable?
Is it just me or are those #neuralnetwork pictures completely wrong? There are no noses learnt on the layers, it's just optimal weight values, learned through gradient descent?
One of the dumbest comments I saw online recently:
"I’ve been campaigning for a few years now to ditch Red Hat at work and slowly work to replace it with something like Rocky, Alma or even SuSE."
Alma is a CentOS downstream, Rocky is literally breastfed by RHEL and SUSE is doing a hard RHEL fork.
In what world is that a "ditch"? Maybe try Slackware Linux instead.
