Fun to hear a teacher being most proud of the students that got a null result and owned it :D

Their data showed a tiny effect, but it was well within the error bars. Most students (I'd almost certainly have done this as well) would just conclude the effect size is tiny and more data is needed, but these students actually argued that the results are simply compatible with there being no causal relationship :)

I cannot access youtube (or any other google service) anymore.

@iris I know only the basics myself so I used ChatGPT to check my sentence. It confidently goes "yes of course I can do this!", breaks down the sentence word for word (correctly), and then gives a wrong translation :P. It goes for (what I'm sure is more common in training data) the question of whether you *know* toki pona. Lukin is *seeing*, though, as that was the topic in your initial post. So I'm curious how you went about understanding wtf my reply means and what you got in the end :)

@freitagvormittag@mastodon.social das Problem ist eher, dass mein Server der Backupverbindung nicht nutzen kann, bzw. die Benutzer/Clients werden der Server unter diesen IP-Adresse nicht finden selbst wenn ich der Server anschließe und alle Ports freigeben könnte über Mobilfunk Aber für mich selbst, als Benutzer anderer Server, gibt es natürlich ein Handy mit Hotspotfunktion ...so wie bei jeder? Woher die Frage?

@freitagvormittag@mastodon.social bei XS4ALL (rip) gab es eine Möglichkeit, einen Stick dazu zu buchen der in dem Fritzbox steckt und wohin automatisch umgeschaltet wird bei Ausfälle. Entweder das, oder ein SIM-Modul in der Laptop würde ich dafür raten, je nach dem wie viele andere Geräte auf dem Fritzbox sind und Datenvolumen und Geschwindigkeit unnötig wegnehmen (also es hängt auch davon ab, wie viel Geschwindigkeit über Mobilfunk verfügbar ist, wie viele Daten das Budget für diese Lösung zulässt, usw.)

Serving them the Dutch version of a page is usually about as appreciated as gifting them a knockoff product that costs as much as the one in original quality and will be followed by an attempt to undo the switcharoo The translation status says 34%, so like, 34% are now being presented to Dutch users in lower quality? That's probably a good stopping point, thanks 😅

Also have limited experience with Vimexx. No complaints but I can't say much about them besides the (then-)attractive pricing and fast dns response times

Altes Handy funktioniert als Messgerät; altes Laptop als Server; weiterer alter Laptop als Windows-System für Nostalgiespielen; alter Desktop hat ein CD-Laufwerk und benutze ich nur noch alle paar Jahre dafür; das neuste Handy muss ich immer noch einrichten (ich hasse wie viele Kompromisse ich da heutzutage eingehen muss und schiebe es vor mich hin, da der worauf ich gerade tippe 'nur' halb auseinander fällt...); usw.

@shafik the few times I've looked up references on Wikipedia, the experience was similar and I don't think this was related to LLMs having written the thing I wanted to learn more about but turned out to not be mentioned at all in the alleged source A comparative study might be better than a blanket "it's frequently wrong". Of course I expect LLMs to perform worse than humans but the context would be helpful to put the numbers into perspective

@shafik fair enough, the number of times I look at sources on Wikipedia in my life is probably countable on one's fingers and I definitely don't remember what page I was on, say, 1–3 years ago when this last occurred. (Also can't see it from edit history since, if the source doesn't say and I'm there for information, evidently I'm not qualified to write on the topic) Will bookmark this post and try to remember to reply when I next check a reference and find that it checks out or not!

Does anyone know of a news aggregator that'll simply tell you if nothing noteworthy happened?

Opened the news for the first time in a while and it's all like "USA tourism decrease due to Trump", "Removing soldiers would undermine credibility", "Child got hurt after windmill hit", "Twins discover they have different fathers" (I kid you not, this is front page news in NL currently), etc etc.
It only makes one annoyed with the world, or it's clickbait. I'd like to spare myself useless visits

@bkastl naja, wenn man nicht ein Gerät von z.B. Samsung oder Google hat wo 7 Jahren schon länger standard waren. Wenn man denkt, es ist ab sofort unsicher sobald keine neue Patches mehr ausgegeben werden (und man kein eigenes OS installieren kann mit der neuste Stand), muss man halt eine Marke wählen (wie Fairphone) wo man Updates bekommt für so lange man das Gerät benutzen möchte. Das war schon immer so wenn man es benutzt für private Sachen wie Nachrichten, Fotos, oder Banking

Got 346 emails because I forgot to turn off a debug setting, where it sends me an email every time someone tries the custom captcha on my contact form

Someone in a bus in the #Netherlands threw sqlmap at the contact form. There is no SQL behind it, but I'm just very amused at the IP address belonging to public wifi on *a bus* :D

I would avoid premium brands like ThinkPad for being overpriced (not by as much as Apple, but you can do better), but overall, laptop brands... everyone has their favorite and since everyone's is different (including those of the people that sell the stuff in stores for years and do repairs etc.) the only logical conclusion I can draw is that each new major version or product line is its own thing. I've had only superb experiences with Asus but 🤷
