Actually the best thing you can do after dying is giving people a huge list of chores. Having the list already done is key.
I was at the mall this weekend, probably the first time in 2 years since it’s an hour drive away but like holy shit are the GenAI posters everywhere now.
Hank is doing much better with the muscle relaxer and pain meds. His poor little dog hip muscles are far too tense. Definitely pulled something. Doctor says it should hopefully clear up in a few days but to take it easy.
If avoiding LLMs and GenAI in general is like “tech veganism”, I would probably identify as a vegetarian.
And much like real life veganism, realistically the vast majority of people, even with great effort, will probably only be about ~95% vegan.
This isn’t to say it is useless to try and be vegan, if even only 50% of people were vegan that would be so significant to carbon impacts that we would absolutely smash all our climate goals that these days seem impossible to meet so it’s not nothing.
I think the AI datacenter companies thought that since NIMBYs are misanthropes like they are, that they would be welcomed with open arms.
No one appreciates that the admin tier group names at work are based on Unix file permissions. 7 for “super admin”, 6 for standard admin, and 4 for IT support/help desk level.

I know MAGA are dumb, but like, l still am incredulous that they could be as dumb as they are.
My wife is a professor and so many students do not understand what a file is or where files are saved. Every year some students send pictures taken from their phone to her email instead of the spreadsheet just being uploaded to the portal.
My daughter’s first desktop Operating System she is going to use will be FreeBSD 😈. She doesn’t have to be a “computer person” but she will at least know what a file is.
What is interesting is Microsoft’s insistence that Office Macros are a security risk and need to be disabled by default and have a roadmap for completely excising them from Office entirely.
And then they also insist that end users should be empowered to create their own “agents” that automate their job. Like Excel macros could automatically generate a report and email it. Now an agent will be able to do the same but be “programmed” using natural language.

I think instead of encouraging shoplifting from Whole Foods, Hasan Piker should get involved in a local food bank. He has a large audience, clearly has money, and instead of streaming all day long every day, uses his platform to encourage his followers to volunteer and community build once a week.
He could probably lobby the government to help fund before and after school food programs for children.

I don’t understand how they are getting to these scales of power usage. Or need it in one facility and not like, total compute capacity globally for the company.
Reminder that gerrymandering can be permanently ended by just having a Single At-Large district per State (or even just at the National Level) and using either Ranked Choice or Approval voting.
The manner which elections are conducted is controlled by the States however they see fit, and there is no specification for the concept of individual districts just what the proportion of representation each State should have by population.

@timesandseasons@mastodo.neoliber.al god my least favorite Google-ism is the “Sign in with google” shit that’s on so many websites. The permanent solution is to, sign into your Google account and check a box saying to tell those websites you don’t want to.
To make Google sign in prompts go away you need to sign into Google is absurd. God forbid you have more than one device or browser. Google just wants to collect your data on all these sites.

It isn’t fusion but you can straight up order a burrito and chips and queso and a sushi roll at the same place. And the sushi is pretty reasonably priced and better than the grocery store stuff (last time I had it a few years ago).
Has anyone ever used IPv6.rs here? And if so, what is your experience?
Less than $5 a month for essentially a public IP with some kind of ngrok/proxy from your host out? Seems like an easy way to self-host and not need to port forward or open up anything on my home network.

@Neblib we have an electric Toro we use to mow a 1/3 Arce yard. Takes about 90 minutes but the battery only lasts about an hour. But splitting it between 2 sessions with the trimming is only like 2 hours and the battery can charge up in a few hours so I could get it done in 1 day if necessary.
I like Toro because it has a whole suite of yard tools that are all compatible with each other. The mower battery is just a much larger size than the one that comes with the trimmer.

Like do you need to deep dive into quarterly financial statements? I mean there’s like 5 DC’s near me that maybe 1 will be publicly traded. Google is building one in BFE Ohio and all I can find is that it’s going to cost 500 million dollars or something. I can find “a massive” 9 MW data center built like a decade ago in Ohio.
Like if the average DC is significantly under 25 MW, Google and AWS also mostly use less than that, then what is the point?

@jhx@mastodon.bsd.cafe glad to hear. I prefer XFCE just thought that since the FreeBSD foundation’s video show casing the desktop installer script featured KDE and FreeBSD on the desktop is quite new to me I would branch out.
I will definitely try rolling back and seeing how performance goes keeping it simple.

I have Wayland KDE on FreeBSD 15 using quarterly as well. The desktop is quite sluggish making me think I should roll back to my pre-desktop-installer script run snapshot and just stick to X11 and XFCE.

I have IPv6 service but I would have to investigate if it’s static or what the deal is with it.
But 1. IPv6.rs comes with a static IPv4 address, and 2. I guess that’s part of my question, is this different than port forwarding? My ISP router is pretty locked down, I need to get my own firewall and get them to put it in bridge mode to do something like port forwarding.
I just want to avoid opening my home internet to the world without taking proper precautions.

@tully to build on this, you should be either using a separate browser or at least a different profile, with no or extremely limited number of browser extensions to do your online banking.
For exactly the reason that some rando extension you forgot it active with all websites permissions or something gets hit in a supply chain attack or they owner sells out to someone who will update it to compromise you.
