Last night, it was a very tragic night in the San Fernando Valley community of Chatsworth, California. First, a SUV vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed, slammed into the side of a Los Angeles Metro city bus, killing at least two of the occupants on that bus and injuring several others! As if that wasn't bad enough, then around 7 PM last night local time, a helicopter, sent out to cover the tragic events, became a tragedy all its own, when this helicopter, from KNBC TV channel 4, crashed, killing both the pilot and the reporter on board the helicopter! I've actually watched the coverage from NBC 4 Los Angeles last night, and even before they could tell the public officially, you could tell they knew something was wrong, when they lost contact with their helicopter crew just as they were about to go on the air last night. So sad, and now here is some audio of air traffic control communications around the time of the crash, and even a bit of audio from the doomed helicopter, this is chilling to listen to! My condolences go out to the entire NBC channel 4 Los Angeles news crew! Holy crap! https://youtu.be/7KyuOYN92-g

Just an interesting observation as an #ACB2026 attendee. I just love how our convention is being held at a hotel which has a completely inaccessible in room thermostat. That's a lovely impression there. A fully touch screen based appliance, which I wouldn't even call usable. And this folks is exactly why there needs to be voiceover like capability on these devices, yet the only fully touch screen devices blind people can use so far as I'm aware, remains Iphones and Android devices! How have we not gotten to the point of having this stuff be fully accessible by now! Just my rant for what it's worth.

This may be the coolest video I've watched today. This is an analysis of a girl's performance of a song. You might think it's auto tune, but you'll be in for a bit of a surprise. Check this out. I believe the analysis of this is being done by an actual vocal coach. https://youtu.be/wRt_2S9H5nA?si=RapMMNv2lqi5XD3g

This is kind of amusing, my reservation number for my upcoming trip on Southwest Airlines to Austin Texas on Thursday, looks quite similar to an amateur radio call sign. That'll make it easier for me to remember. It would be highly amusing if someone by chance flying on Southwest got the reservation number of KD6CAE. :)

Well folks, I'll be at #NFB26. I'll be staying at the residence Inn, I believe that's the second of the overflow hotels, we will see how my experience will be. I arrived July 2, depart the area July 9, and if nothing else I absolutely look forward to the mock trial. See some of you beginning next Thursday, provided I don't get lost while trying to get between places, lol.

That moment when trying to figure out the next plans for your summer adventures, you discover that flying to your possible next destination would be cheaper than taking an Amtrak train, never thought I would say that. Still have some thinking to do, with the final decision to be made tomorrow, but there is a bit of a possibility now, that I might end up in Austin Texas. Until I did research tonight, that possibility was looking extremely doubtful. So, let the summer adventures continue. People going to #NFB26 convention, there is a possibility I might show up there. I'm also hoping to meet family there, but that can only happen if I can manage to reach out to them in the first place. Either way, we will see what happens as time continues to march on and the adventures continue

@JonathanMosen@caneandable.social @jaybird110127@dragonscave.space I've had the honor of visiting Kennedy space Center twice myself. First visit was in 2009, during the launch of space shuttle endeavor on mission STS-127. During that visit, I got to experience the space shuttle launch simulator, known as the space shuttle launch experience. What an awesome attraction that is. In 2024, I would get a second opportunity to visit Kennedy space Center. This time, I got to visit the Apollo Saturn V center. I also got to have lunch with an astronaut as well. What an unforgettable experience. As someone who grew up near the backup landing site for the space shuttle at Edwards Air Force Base California, I became a space nerd somewhat early in my childhood, and I've now been able to visit the Johnson space Center once, and Kennedy space Center twice. Short of going into space, I think I've crossed off man space flight visitation locations off my bucket list nicely. :)

Well, I'll be at #ACB26 in St. Louis. Just coordinated with a friend, and we will be roommates there. Guess I should now register for the actual convention itself, now that I got the hotel stuff squared away. :) There is also a slight possibility I may end up in Austin during #NFB26 as well, though that isn't at all a for sure thing. But it is on my radar.

@jcsteh I've been playing with tailscale myself over the last couple months, and it's amazing. I can access a friend's local resources should I want to, and it's seemless. On our tailnet, we have several exit nodes set up on some of our various servers, so we can browse the internet from any of those locations, or none of them, as we wish, and it's very easy to switch. The only thing I haven't yet tried is sending files between say a PC and a phone on the tailnet, something I've heard can be done, but will eventually get around to trying that. It's so cool. Nice to see software that hasn't completely forgotten about accessibility.

They did it! It always amazes me that this even works. Going from crazy fast mach 33 to 0 in just 14 minutes! And they did it perfectly! Awesomeness! #Artemis2 Still listening to post landing coverage. Love when the crew said, "4 green crew members" and public affairs said that wasn't their complexion, I laughed, beautiful way to end the historic flight! Now we can get ready for crew recovery over the next couple hours

@adam It's looking promising. Aircraft in the area have a good visual on the spacecraft, and nothing is breaking up! We like this! It still amazing that this works at all.

@nicolas17 You'll be pleased to kno that one of my servers, on a 1 gigabit uplink to the internet is now seeding your torrent, and I've also put the file itself on one of my web servers, that has a 10 gigabit uplink, and I'll also put it in my object storage and put that link out publicly once I get it there. This thing ain't going anywhere now! :) Again thanks for doing this.

Wow just learned of the passing of Moya Brennan, founding member of the group Clannad. https://www.thejournal.ie/founding-member-of-clannad-moya-brennan-dies-aged-73-7011916-Apr2026/ May she rest in piece. She created very unique and cool music. I discovered her work back in the Napster days, even bought one of her albums at Tower Records after previewing it on Napster.

Hi everyone, I do still exist, I've just purposely been off mastodon for a couple weeks, visiting with friends out in Ventura California and now here in Reno, and you'll certainly be hearing from me more as the ACB convention approaches. Hope everyone is enjoying the beginning of summer

For those that might remember the electronic store Fry's electronics, you might find this video a bit interesting. I visited a Fry's electronics store toward the end of its existence, and holy crap was that weird, seeing a store like that in the past had been just as busy as an Apple Store, be almost deserted. In fact when I went there to buy a hard drive, they actually didn't have any. That was just bizarre. But enjoy this video https://youtu.be/HLCwTYWXpzo?si=ltMnSG8efiKnn2YT

@announcements@fedi.adamm.cc That certainly explains why I couldn't connect to it to update stuff I have there. Thanks for the prompt status updates. Might I seriously suggest you look into getting coin batteries replaced on all those machines if at all possible. Refering to all the deb boxes 1 through 4. Events like this will happen from time to time, but that's no reason to not enjoy self hosting stuff. I think it's cool that you are doing that. Not too many folks I know of host from their residential internet lines these days like we all did back in 2000. :)

@BorrisInABox@fwoof.space I literally use the T-life app once a year to redeme my MLB.tv baseball subscription. I don't even use it to pay my bill, as I'm on a friend's plan, so I just pay them my portion of bill directly.

@edwardk@infosec.exchange @TheQuinbox@dragonscave.space As someone who is totally blind, Backblaze is one of the only accessible cloud backup solutions I have found. It's not perfect, but it's mostly usable. I particularly like the ability to restore files and folders from the web. That being said however, I don't like the fact that they stop backing up cloud services folders like dropbox without telling anyone. If the file is stored on your machine, then it should be backed up. Is that not the point of a back up after all? I remember probably about a year and a half ago or so, I did have to restore a file that it accidentally been deleted from my Dropbox a couple months earlier. I was able to do this at that time thanks to Backblaze, but I discovered relatively recently, that that had stopped being the case, I wouldn't expect it to back up stuff that's online only obviously, but if the data is on the system, that is you've pulled it in from Dropbox and it's sitting on your drive, then Backblaze should do its part and back the damn thing up! Not hard. Oh yes, and they also quietly increased the price of a hard drive restore, from $189 to $279, yet you can still only get a maximum of an 8 TB drive? Really?
