fedi.adamm.cc will be going down for migration to the new server. I'm not entirely sure how long it will take, but this will be a test-run for when I intend on migrating SomePlace.Social, which will allow me to be able to be more specific for that community. I think I have it planned out well, but one never knows how it will turn out on a first-run. I do know that I'll have to patch up the network config of the VMs, as well as the media reverse proxy configuration, as it is currently specific to a Wireguard tunnel, and that will need to be updated. But here we go, fingers crossed.
AdamM.cc Service Announcements
Welcome to AdamM.CC Service Status Announcements.
This account will consist of planned and unplanned maintenance, outage, and other informational messages related to services offered by AdamM.CC.
From this point forward, the home infrastructure remains available, but should be considered unstable, and will be provided only as a best-effort, as-is service until further notice. It will all be going away completely for an extended period of time during relocation which is TBD.
The fedi.adamm.cc Mastodon Instance has been moved to the dedicated server in a data center. There will be a complete, ready-to-go hot standdbye running on the home server should it be needed.
The AdamM.CC Apartment-sized data center is currently experiencing a power outage, and is running on backup battery power. We will keep everything online so long as battery power remains available, or AC power is restored. If we must go offline, we will return to full operations just as soon as AC power is restored.
The higher latency and packet loss to Montreal has been resolved.
The entire Debian Fleet will be rebooted for operating system updates at 00:00 Eastern. Downtime is expected to be five to ten minutes.
TheBeast is back online, and quieter than ever! Considering how much dust came out of the thing, it is most certainly no wonder. There are certainly two out of the six fans that probably needed replacing yesterday, or six months ago, but that will have to await the locating and funding of two genuine 15,000 RPM High Performance HPE server fans, for this specific fan cage, and server model, and chassis type. The two bad fans rotate, but most certainly with heavy rotational vibrations. They were definitely gone a while ago. The HPE ILO reports fans healthy and redundant though, so it hasn't raised an internal alarm yet. Not sure if that speaks to the shittiness and ineffectiveness of the monitoring, or if the fans are actually performing well enough to pass whatever health checks, probably sensor reads faster than 0RPM, and then it passes. LOL. But its all back online now, and I will count on fan redundancy, and the winter, to get us through the hopefully not long interim of obtaining replacement genuine parts.
TheBeast will be going down for a major air duster blowout. Once it returns, I will monitor it for a while, and if it remains as stable as it always has been, when I wasn't breaking it like last year, I will declare the home network once-again certified-stable. The moving situation is such that its happening is most certainly uncertain, and should that possibility make itself known, I will be providing two months notice here of further downtime/instability. Anyone utilizing services on the home network may be assured that efforts will be maintained to keep services as stable as is within control.
Personal and commercial Mail Services, and a segment of commercial VPN Services are down. No ETA on restoration. Looks like the routes were wiped right off the map, so that could be an indication that it could be a while. More updates as they happen.
The Home VPN is back up. Everyone who needs configs should have them in our particular Dropbox folders.
All AdamM.CC Apartment-Sized Data Center services will be down starting at 3:00 AM for a maintenance window of potentially two hours for network and virtual machine maintenance and backups. Hopefully, after this maintenance window, VPN services will also be restored.
Deb1, which primarily hosted the home VPN has gone down in an unscheduled power failure event. We can boot the Debian installer, so there's hope of quicker turnaround time to operational status. VPN services, and annoyingly for me, my Win10VM, are officially down until further notice.
Tentatively logging potential bad thermal sensor on TheBeast server. Experienced high fan RPM when load nor temperature warranted the higher RPM fan speed being maintained. Reboot cleared the incident, but warrants further investigation. Preliminary reports show all is healthy, therefore this could very well be the start of an intermittent issue.
Fedi.adamm.cc is now running Mastodon version 4.4.0-beta.1+glitch.
We are experiencing higher latency and occasional packet loss to our Montreal, Canada infrastructure. This may affect the availability and performance of some broadcast, database, mail, Mastodon, streaming, web, VoIP, and VPN services. If this does not resolve relatively soon, we will shift loads to our Toronto, Canada infrastructure.
All Debian systems reboot required for critical security updates. Downtime is expected to be five minutes.
