@xan I had 70% autism and 25% German, which is a very precise result when I think about it - only one of my four grandparents was German. Also, I'm not fully autistic, the rest is ADHD 😸

@hazelweakly I have a domain catch-all inbox and have a unique email for most of the things, it's then automatically sorted into folders, and I try to have time slots based on priorities to go through them. The main address is used purely only for human-to-human communication and I try to keep it that way, so it's manageable long term. Oh, and I use Thunderbird with a really compact and clean view.

@millie@infosec.exchange yes please. I want more software which is just being updated due to bugs and flaws and maybe for better user experience and not because "we need more features to have new features and grow bigger and bigger." This way, we just got enshittified products with no viable alternatives, with terrible support, more flaws and unreasonable pricing.

@jacqueline It depends on the use case. I buy a new phone every ~3 years, but I have two, so one lasts about 5-6 years, usually with one battery change. I need a good camera and computing power, so I spend around 600-800€ on one.

@Larvitz amazing guide, thanks for that! I started to write something similar last year, but never got far. I quickly skimmed it and I have one practical tip though: It would be good to add how to create a service user, configure lingering, set XDG_RUNTIME_DIR and check if podman is working properly (including reboots, in some cases podman falls back to keep running data on file system which is persistent, not temporary, and refuses to start) - you'd never guess how I struggled with it a few years ago when I was starting with podman on a remote VM over ssh. And I especially thank you for showing the traefik approach! I'm now manually configuring nginx, and it's quite a boring task.

It seems that Daemon tools are distributing malware, for at least a month now.

I think that some of you here are retrogaming enthusiasts, so better check if you're not affected.

I've just realized my phone memory is mostly full not only of photos of our cats, but also queer/gaming/fandom memes, fan arts, sometimes lewd fan arts, screenshots of funny toots and links to websites I'll never open again. It has tens of gigabytes now. It's a bad urge to want to sift through it for days, categorize it, try to find original sources and make a smol database, is it? I know it is, that's why it will stay in ever growing, always backed up, download folder forever for the future me to be semi-surprised again one day and laugh at things I forgot because I spent only a few seconds on them in the past.

Thanks to that one person who proposed to fediblock @catsalad@infosec.exchange I found another vibecheck criterion for unknown accounts: if they don't like CatSalad, it's a huge red flag. Like, you may be fren shaped, but if you don't get the essence of CatSalad, you're no fren.

I've just realized my "hobby" to gather, repair and use still functional electronics is slightly getting out of hand, because I have now five Thinkpads of various generations at home.

@foone@digipres.club reminds me of today's situation - I was at a small conference and me and guy next to me pulled out our computers. I was already working on my Linux machine while his overpowered company issued Windows computer was still unresponsive due to Microsoft Defender doing its thing and windows update installing stuff and whatever else was happening there for ten minutes until he was able to start Word without hiccups ...

@moh_kohn@mastodon.scot I love statically generated sites with as little JavaScript as possible. There's something calming about a website that just loads in a blink of an eye and no clutter, just ... Information. I unfortunately use corporate tools which often send many megabytes of data just to display ... A table with twenty values. And it takes sometimes tens of seconds on an up to date computer and gigabit connection. And no, the backend database and logic is not the bottleneck.
