If your #HomeAssistant OS upgrade from 17.3 to 18.0/18.1 broke your #pi compute module's integrated bluetooth, the quickest workaround is running ha os boot-slot other over ssh. Before you do that, verify that the other slot contains 17.3 by running ha os info.

@sleepyowl@chaos.social While I'm all for pushing back on the policy, we should also make technical measures. Stock pre-covid era hardware. No way that states can come for all that hardware and force us to turn it in.
As for the 'performance improvements' -- software, including OS written in the past 20 years is so shitty that with a lot of optimisation work we can make it run at least a 100x faster on any existing hardware.
My warm congratulations to the "billionaires shouldn't exist" crowd. Today marks the day when we finally lose one of the billionaires as he enters a trillionaire status.

Such luck! Accidentally found #CR2032 batteries that you can buy without a package. I'll have to think about storage a bit but it beats scissoring right on the edge of plastic and metal for two minutes every time I need to change one of the little ones.

I’ve long forgotten the feeling. But yes, I think this is how I felt after seeing Windows ME and choosing Linux for my desktop instead of it.

None of screensavers inside xscreensaver can (safely) run (display) an arbitrary process either, I imagine? While locking the input, of course.

@jwz@mastodon.social Thanks! UX is easy. If a key has been pressed or a button clicked, blur the screen (blanking works too) and display a password input box or call the relevant pam modules.
If ESC has been pressed or no keys have been pressed for at least 10 seconds, delete the contents of the box and get back to full transparency.
The technical aspect is the interesting one. Must the screensaver draw over the whole screen / all displays? Can it re-render what's underneath and display that indirectly?

We can’t deny that content moderation as it stands today does not work well with federation targets that we have set for ourselves.
I believe you are talking about what content moderation *is right now* but they are pointing at a rotary phone and saying “It could be the future of the telegraph.” You are both right.
“ActivityHub” reference in the article made me chuckle though.
