The fog was thick enough that morning to swallow the valley entirely, but the ridge held its shape above it, catching the first warm light before anything below had a chance to.

That’s a 10-minute drive from where I live and you can find me there often with my camera.
Gold Shore, Blue Range - Lake Clearwater, Canterbury, NZ.
Ten minutes of light I hadn't seen at this lake before. An early morning storm was leaving the area. The tussock in full light, the mountain still in shadow, and the lake holding both. The mirrored island of trees anchors the frame.
