Whole bunch of days late, but #cposc #cposc2026 was a great event. Looking forward to #cposc2027.

One thing I tend to find head scratching about modern open source Smalltalks is they all feel harder to get started with than they should be. Why don't they all ship with drop dead simple tools for working with Postgres, SQLite, REST APIs, combined with the ease of making forms in VB6, Access, or Django?

@yetiinabox @quixoticgeek sadly, I don't own a NeXT computer, but I do at least have a next step 3.3 box set, the cubic version.

And, as far as I know, my first ever page landing on Hacker News. I never felt I should be posting my own stuff there, even though I see other people do that.
The real question, is there any chance it will bring me business? That sure would be nice.

It only took me a year, but I finally finished composing my thoughts on moment as a unit of time in the modern day and age.

@david_chisnall@infosec.exchange @slava@mathstodon.xyz Pointing out SQLite probably wasn't fair due to being a C library.
I've seen some talks posted about CHERIoT at places like media.ccc.de, but all I recall hearing about it was safety and security. I don't think I recall hearing anything about how it helps improve interoperability, enables next generation of programming languages, or gives programmers new ways to express themselves. Are there talks or papers I should have been paying better attention to?
Since I saw there is now a FreeRTOS compatibility layer, that made me think to look if micropython was ported yet, and I found an ACM paper about that, so I will at least have to read that one.

@slava@mathstodon.xyz VB5 was pretty cool, and the database features of VB6 seemed amazing at the time. I don't miss the language itself all that much though. To me, the closest feeling thing is Django.
I feel like of the three you mentioned though, only Smalltalk really had a decent language attached to it.
