Europe was pushing stellarator research, when US and Asia gave up focusing mostly on tokamaks. #Wendelstein7X - stellarator working in Greifswald - delivered such spectacular results that it started renaissance of stellarator research in the world. There are three major new projects following W7X - one in US, and two in Germany. This is a fourth one. I am so happy about that.
I get impression that today’s internet is full of people, which try to sell us that being excellent means that you have to have some super elaborate procedures in your life.
Keep it simple and do things which you really care for. My best scientific discoveries were made where I had almost no routines at all. I just wanted to understand how the things work. :-) #Excellence #SelfImprovement #PeakPerformance
I am really enjoying the newest album by #PaulMcCartney. It has in many places quality of the #Beatles album, but it does not sound dated. It is nostalgic, but also uplifting and in some places experimental.
Lyrics evolve around youth years of Paul McCartney in Liverpool. The strongest songs for me are:
-Days we left behind
-Home to us
And
-Momma gets by. #Notareview

@randahl@mastodon.social @Paul_stilgar@mastodon.social I wonder whether the Spanish prime minister would be just as principled if Spain were located where Latvia or Poland are. BTW, this is the same Spain that says which does not need to increase Europe’s defense capabilities.
This is fun reading. How researchers use #Doom in #science.

Proxima Fusion, @plasmaphysik@wisskomm.social, and the state of Bavaria have signed an agreement to build a new fusion reactor in Germany — a meaningful step forward for European fusion energy.
The Alpha device is based on a stellarator concept, building on the physics foundation of Wendelstein 7-X. The goal is to reach Q > 1 (net energy gain) and to advance the path toward a stellarator-based fusion power plant built in Europe. #Fusion

@benroyce@mastodon.social @randahl@mastodon.social @Paul_stilgar@mastodon.social Sure, I just think it is easier to be dead honest if you do not have Russia breathing at your neck. I must say however, I have no clue what would be the best way to communicate with US at the moment.

@davidgerard@circumstances.run I have Sony PS turntable, which I use to convert my vinyl records. it can create WAVs, which you can convert to FLACs
Question to the wisdom of the Fediverse. Is there a way to get back to old, iPod like experience on iPhone with music? To see only the songs I have purchased or uploaded via iTunes Match?

@j0seph@mastodon.social Indeed, in Polish children "literature" there was alread a flood of stock generated illustrations (horrible), now this. Fortunately there are a few publishing houses, which you can trust that they will not publish AI crap.

@meganmariehart@mastodon.social Yes, I do. This is a luxury that I can watch an opera, or listen to philharmonic concert in such a small town.
I am a bit envious, as we have no chance to see Aida, which is my favorite opera ever. This is very nice in Darmstadt that the theater has productions for children.
Ps Indeed, summer here is wonderful. Winter not so much. ;-)

@depereo@mastodon.social @kithrup@wandering.shop @fatsam and on top of that 3/4 of the shelves in the supermarket contain food that no one really needs. How much Earth was wasted for that. We are like bacterias in a flask, which will eat all the sugar and never think about the consequences.

@fraggle@social.coop This will come next week. Ministry of science announced it last Friday. This will be much much smaller experiment than ITER, as it is first step out of three. Each next step will be bigger.

Ryan Gosling delivers a moving performance. The idea of all humankind uniting to save Earth feels idealistic, especially in light of our struggles with climate change, but it works within the film’s hopeful tone. Overall, it’s a smart, engaging movie, even if the alien portrayal is typically for US sci-fi: Rocky is biologically unique alien civilization yet he functions along human paradigms and uses English grammar for communication.

@meganmariehart@mastodon.social I am reading your posts carefully. :) Sadly, it's far too far to travel from Greifswald to Darmstadt, but I'm really envious of the programme at your theatre.
