@neil@mastodon.neilzone.co.uk The sudo warning is pretty good: We trust you have received the usual lecture from the local System Administrator. It usually boils down to these three things: #1) Respect the privacy of others. #2) Think before you type. #3) With great power comes great responsibility. root's password:

@simonbs@mastodon.social I wonder if apple has an app review response time heuristic. Simple updates to my existing apps are often both responded to and accepted within 48 hours. New apps, or complex changes to existing apps, often seem to require a slightly longer wait before I receive the in review notification. This all could be in my head. Updates to existing apps are already running in testflight so I don’t really feel any delay.

@Geri@mastodon.online eh, I don’t want to start an argument, but it was a bit more complex than that? Also, the question wasn’t what made the country surrender, it was what turned it into a democracy. Either way I recognise that my bow is long.

Fantastic article. I wholeheartedly agree with every word. And as @ludicity@mastodon.sprawl.club knows I always quibble so I am as shocked as anyone. https://mastodon.social/@iris_meredith/116951616181287278

@BenRiceM@mastodon.social interesting. Are you waiting on any new apps? I have new apps that I have been waiting on for 10 days and counting, but an update to an existing app was just approved within around 12 hours.

@iris_meredith@mastodon.social It’s an interesting dynamic because fireworks were not approved by modern society - gunpowder is 9th (?) century technology. They were banned. It’s all about societal tolerance for (mostly) accidental harm. I loved setting off fireworks as a young kid. Then the (Australian) Government banned using fireworks without a permit - other than cracker night in the Northern Territory - because the fun wasn’t worth the injuries and property damage. Annoying but I see the logic. Different countries and different cultures treat this trade off differently.

@sarahjamielewis@mastodon.social this is an interesting take but perhaps a little blunt? Routing around censorship, or in other words preventing censors from knowing what people are doing, is a form of privacy. The trade off is trusting the vpn provider.

@simonbs@mastodon.social my new app has been in review for 3+ days. My new apps usually get rejected (for valid reasons) or accepted much quicker than that. Either my app is strange/difficult (seems pretty vanilla to me), Apple has some sort of backlog/blockage at the moment (likely), or Apple is messing with us (you have to think very unlikely).

@jonmsterling@mathstodon.xyz when they say it’s dead, what they mean is there’s no way to insert a paywall or otherwise get between the rss provider and users and clip the ticket.

@b0rk@social.jvns.ca perfectly logical - you are commodifying your complements. Unless you derive joy from hosting yourself it makes perfect sense to spend your time elsewhere. As long as your stack allows you to easily move to at least two other independent providers.
