Our friends from the National Coalition of Independent Scholars are conducting a global study on the experiences of #IndependentScholars and researchers. They’re looking into the highs and lows of doing research outside traditional academic institutions.

They’re interested in speaking with independent scholars of all kinds and based anywhere in the world.

If this sounds like you, feel free to reach out and take part! Please contact Linda Baines at BaSISBook2025 [at] gmail [dot] com

📌 Our literature review paper has just been published!

It presents a broad and comprehensive overview of 82 barriers & challenges faced by authors seeking to publish #OA.

Our analysis shows that addressing obstacles related to OA provision alone will not be sufficient to ensure #equitable, #diverse, and #fair publishing opportunities. It is essential to recognize and engage with the broader systemic issues that shape #ScholarlyCommunication

We’re happy to share that we successfully wrapped up the IDAHO project at #OAT25 with a presentation of the final findings from our mixed-method study!

We found that researchers with weak institutional ties do experience affiliation-specific #barriers. To address this, we derive five recommendations for academic publishers to mitigate these obstacles and make #OA publishing more diverse and equitable.

For more details, take a look at the slides: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.17152714
