A new preprint, “Academic Publishing in Occupied Territories: Challenges to Research Integrity and Academic Trust,” uncovers the complex legal and ethical challenges surrounding the unlawful appropriation of Ukraine-born academic journals by the occupation authorities of the Russian Federation.

By applying bibliometric methods, the study examines visibility and impact of these journals.

Thank you @tibhannover@openbiblio.social for always keeping me supplied with printed #books and somehow always having exactly what I want to read! 🤍

This time I grabbed "The Evaluation Game: How Publication Metrics Shape Scholarly Communication" by Emanuel Kulczycki

This week, the Oxford International Centre for Publishing and Journalism is hosting 18 publishers and academics from #Ukraine.

The program aims to equip Ukrainian editors, publishers, and policymakers with the skills and knowledge to strengthen the quality, sustainability, and global integration of Ukrainian scholarly publishing.

Made possible thanks to Frances Pinter and the SUPRR — Supporting Ukrainian Publishing Resilience and Recovery — initiative.

Rigorous, ethical, and timely research is being conducted beyond the walls of traditional universities and research institutions - and it deserves equitable opportunities for dissemination. Yet affiliation-specific barriers often stand in the way. Our @idaho@openbiblio.social team propose a set of recommendations for academic publishers and editors to make scholarly communication system more inclusive and epistemically just.

  1. I am grateful to @tullney for the fruitful discussions that helped shape this paper, and to @LudoWaltman for his valuable advises.

Special thanks to the anonymous reviewers for their critical feedback.

I would also like to highlight my positive experience publishing with #QSS, where, as an early career researcher, I had the opportunity to publish a #preprint for the first time, undergo #OpenPeerReview, and share the underlying data.
