I sometimes just spend way too long making tools no one will use, or tweaking my NixOS configuration.

So after switching my #nixos servers to use account-utils [1], i switched my desktop today. And nothing exploded, login just works, the switch is seamless. As it should be! I didn't trust it for my daily driver for a while, but after I fixed up some internals of how we do plasma-login-manager with pam, this just works now! And same should be the case for any other display manager supported on nixos.

@oxy@social.bsdlab.au I'd argue yes, but there is some details worth noting.
- they currently don't ban LLMs: https://github.com/helix-editor/helix/discussions/15408#discussioncomment-16130946
- keybinds are vim-like, but not identical. I have grown to appreciate the more logical (to me) keybinds of helix being select->act.
- It is rust with a bunch of dependency crates. Have fun with an audit. It could be worse, but it makes me a little uneasy.
- their security stance is a bit wonky in places. Workspace trust (https://github.com/helix-editor/helix/pull/15177) is still not in a release...

@privateger@plasmatrap.com quick heads up, i am of the strong opinion we need to start removing shit noone cares about, we have too much garbage. In the case of NCT6687D, that has a maintainer - but you may want to consider stepping up for the weirder things out there if you want to be notified about changes (including proposed deprecations/removals or other issues)

@alina@girldick.gay good luck! I did this in a toy VM at https://git.grimmauld.de/grimmauld/grimm-musl and it was absolutely painful to get it working.
