Early in the full-scale war against Ukraine, when Russia still tried to convince their people of the necessity of the invasion (shortly before retreating to just arresting everyone opposing the war), they came up with loads of ridiculous and sometimes pretty funny reasons, like Ukrainians being gay nazis running secret biolabs where they breed mosquitos that can smell Russian DNA, bollocks like that. One of the many dumb things they claimed was that Ukrainians are satanists using black magic against Russians.

Now this is happening:

Kirill, head of the Russian Orthodox Church and famous for running around blessing tanks, missiles, drones or canisters of diesel, is not amused.

@AnnaAnthro From the title I first thought this was an old story I've read before, I was wrong. This one is pretty crazy as well though: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/ukraine-soldier-underground-bunker-sergiy-tyshchenko-russia-war-b2935045.html

Feeling a bit stupid right now but I only just realized that latitude and longitude are given as degrees because they are, in fact, angles, not just arbitrarily numbered lines on a globe. 🤦‍♂️ It's kinda obvious, I just somehow never spent a single thought about it, despite working with coordinates quite regularly.

Last night I thought I'd check out Flutter/Dart and after a few hours of playing around this ugly-ass prototype of an Android client for @readeck@mastodon.online fell out. I know there's already one in the making but that's about as functional as mine so I think I might just keep working on it (unless I get bored) and maybe even finish it.

Browsing through @kagihq@mastodon.social's #smallweb with all the cool nerd projects, niche hobbies and other random obscurities is so fun it kinda makes me want to start my own blog. No idea what I'd write about and if anyone would ever want to read any of it, I just somehow want to be part of it. 😛

Next up: #Trump will declare he needs to own Vatican City for global security, the #Pope / Swiss Guards will buy air defense (expertise) from #Ukraine.

You heard it here first.

EDIT: #FIFA will declare Trump football pope/Jesus.

@PogoWasRight The thing I was referring to was at least ~2 years back I think. Didn't have any luck finding it yet but this might also be interesting. Most concerning thing here IMO is that apparently companies make less backups, or if they do then in a way that gets them corrupted by ransomware along with their production data. Data recovered from backups after a ransomware attack at the lowest point in six years. 🤦‍♂️ https://assets.sophos.com/X24WTUEQ/at/9brgj5n44hqvgsp5f5bqcps/sophos-state-of-ransomware-2025.pdf

@PogoWasRight Will do. Assuming that you did some online research and didn't stumble across it I'm pretty sure it was a German-language thing. I also vaguely remember that they interviewed authorities (either regular cops or probably BKA/BSI if it was Germany) and they grudgingly admitted that when contacted for help by victims of ransomware they actually regularly recommend (to the individual victims/companies, not to the general public of course) paying the ransom because realistically they can't do jackshit to help you get your data back and most of the time the attackers hold up to their promise. That's all just from memory though, I'll let you know if I find the source again.

@PogoWasRight I remember similar research about the odds of actually getting your data back in case ransomware encrypted/deleted it with very similar outcome. They pretty much always deliver because otherwise people wouldn't pay anymore and they'd be killing their own business model. That was a couple of years ago so no link, sorry.

@alice @briankrebs Just out of curiosity, in a competition or record attempt, does it matter whether you're single pin picking or raking, are they separate disciplines? And if so how do they verify? Asking because I for example usually start raking/zipping with a flat hook before bothering to fiddle with individual pins, which works for a huge amount of cheapish locks, so technically I'm raking but not using a rake. I'm not planning to compete or anything, I'm just curious if a jury could tell the difference and disqualify me, or if they even care at all. :)

@larsmb@mastodon.online @kagihq@mastodon.social No idea if this works but maybe instead of adding individual shops you could add price comparison sites like idealo.de, geizhals.de and so on and then filter Amazon results.

@kagihq@mastodon.social Well if you ever bring it to Android, please make sure that not only the address bar is at the bottom of the screen but also the tabs in the tab switcher. @firefox just broke the latter one and browsing is just shit for one-hand use now. Even went to abandon Firefox but the others are just as bad regarding UI. Browser speed is completely irrelevant if you need seconds to press a stupid button because someone thought it's clever to put in places no thumb can ever reach.

@randahl@mastodon.social The free world doesn't even dare firing warning shots at Russia, despite Russia openly attacking them with ballistic missiles on Poland, drones on German airports and so on. And North Korea is far away, what would they do, send a boat around the world or what?
