@rooster@beige.party Maybe, but the older I get the more I think of most programmers as police, not workers, on account of all the complicity in surveillance and such. I don't think I've fully thought that idea out before, and it's a broad generalization, but it fits my experience (both my own previous complicity and the complicity of programmers I've met and the completely unserious nature of them)

@jamn@kolektiva.social @rooster@beige.party i don't program for work anymore x) most software/hardware fundamentally doesn't need to exist and is from the start meant to be extractive. And the ones that are meant to serve us (healthcare, etc) aren't done by any sort of serious individuals when they include third party trackers. idk it's fundamentally a political and social issue, not a technological one. so if you want to do tech, organize and form unions with your coworkers, other programmers and not, so you have some real power and leverage when you see this stuff come up in your jira tickets, notion boards, or whatever folks are using these days

@jamn@kolektiva.social @rooster@beige.party I hear you. I like coding as art and focus on that when I want to code. Lots of what I said above is for corporate work, but the work we do for ourselves and each other is always valuable and doesn't come with the pressures to hurt each other.

@clickhere@mastodon.ie It probably varies since we're in different locales, but I really do wait until end of May before disturbing too much of last year. You really want it to be warm enough for long enough for all the little bugs to wake up for the new year. I'm mostly commenting because last year I think I mowed too early and regretted it x)
