@skinnylatte Thanks for sharing your perspective. The reason I cancelled my Washington Post subscription was that they got scooped on the story of Supreme Court justice Samuel Alito flying the Appeal to Heaven flag at his vacation home despite having a *multi-year lead* over other publications on this information.
Catholic justices on SCOTUS have aided and abetted the trend of a “Christian exception” over the course of numerous rulings to not only free Christians from compliance with laws the apply to everyone else, but enable Christians to impose their beliefs on those who don’t share them.

@emc2 @skinnylatte Jeff Sharlet has written at some length about the international reach of this strain of Christianity. His book The Family was made into a Netflix documentary and in it you see the connection between American evangelicals and anti-LGBT legislation in African countries, for example.

@jums@framapiaf.org The success of that slave revolt was opposed by slaveholders in the colonies that preceded the United States and by presidents including George Washington and Thomas Jefferson (John Adams supported Louverture). The U.S. did not recognize Haitian independence until 1862.

@gavinisdie@masto.ai Their nation of origin is just a detail to white supremacists like Trump, Vance, and others. They care only about power, and any detail that will amplify white grievance will do.

@MJmusicinears@mastodon.world quite a lot of American history outside its borders involves the U.S. government replacing Spanish imperialism with their own.
